Is CyberGhost good for Gaming?
Nowadays, gamers are increasingly choosing to purchase VPN software (Virtual Private Network) – whether to protect themselves from a DDoS attack, to unlock some region-locked content, or out of a simple need to change their IP address.
This time we decided to take a deeper look at Cyberghost, a VPN service provider that has been on the market for over a decade, and see if it should be your go-to gaming VPN.
Before reading this review, note that the games we tested Cyberghost with were CS:GO, PUBG, Rocket League, Halo Infinite, Warzone, GTA VI, World Of Tanks, Minecraft, Roblox, League Of Legends, R6S, Dota 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Fortnite, Valorant, Overwatch 2 and Rust 2.
Cyberghost is actually quite an affordable VPN service provider. If you frequently change your IP address or are into streaming and want to avoid any DDoS attacks or simply protect your privacy, with Cyberghost, you can do so for just $2.15 per month (with a 39-month plan) - which is an even better offer than what you'll find on IPVanish and just as good as PureVPN.
And by the way, this is probably the cheapest offer currently on the VPN market. Sure, 39 months is a long time, but it's actually $83.85 yearly, and it's seriously cost-effective.
However, most of you will probably be interested in two specific plans – yearly and monthly. So, we love the annual plan and think it's a great deal, but monthly is not worth it at all, especially since competitors like Surfshark VPN offer an almost identical plan for nearly 10% of the Cyberghost price. But in contrast to VyprVPN, Cyberghost is still much cheaper.
That said, we think it's fair to give Cyberghost a 4/5 rating in that aspect – all plans except the monthly one are a great deal, but the monthly one is just not worth it, and we’ll take 1 rating point for it.
Reputation Among Gamers (5/5)
Gamers seem to be incredibly happy with Cyberghost's services! Wherever you look on the internet, it's tough to find bad reviews about this particular VPN service provider when it comes to gaming. Just take a look at their Trustpilot profile; not only do they have thousands of positive reviews, but a surprisingly large number of them are from gamers.
Moreover, most of them talk specifically about actually playing games, not about unlocking geo-restricted content or some more minor tasks. This is another big plus and a testament that even more demanding users might be interested in investing in Cyberghost VPN.
Cyberghost Gaming Performance (4.5/5)
We also rate Cyberghost's gaming performance very positively. Through several weeks of testing and playing multiple competitive matches in Valorant, Rocket League, and Overwatch, we have not once experienced a single disconnection, not even the slightest. We also tried it for streaming on Discord, as well as Twitch, and in fact, we often forgot we were using it at all.
We also tested Cyberghost on consoles, and unfortunately, this is the aspect for which we will deduct 0.5 points from our rating. We tried their service on both Xbox One and PlayStation 5, and the worst part of it all was the significant download speed drops, up to 70%, and here, unfortunately, disconnects happened quite often.
But apart from that, Cyberghost seems like a good choice for a gaming VPN, it works better than ProtonVPN and NordVPN, and we’d still consider it, especially if you know that you might need it for a longer period of time.
Cyberghost Server Locations (5/5)
At the time of writing this review, Cyberghost VPN has about 6000 servers in 90 countries, which is a great offer considering the fact that you can get this for $2.15 per month. If you need to change your IP address to different locations frequently, and you know you will be doing this for years to come, it is probably hard to find a better deal than Cyberghost.
Moreover, unlike other VPNs, almost every server feels stable here and usually meets expectations. You know, when you're living in Eastern Europe and connecting to Japan or the United States servers, you don't expect the fastest connection, but it's still not that bad here; surely the word "stable" fits well to Cyberghost's server performance.
Customer Support (5/5)
And the icing on the cake – Cyberghost’s customer support, which meets all standards. Their website has tons of helpful articles that solve the most common problems on various operating systems.
And if you don't find your problem in one of these articles, you can always use their live chat support that works 24/7 and get your answer in a matter of minutes.
If your problem is too extensive for a live chat, you can also contact them on their support mail ([email protected]). Even though it might take a little longer to get your response, you can be sure that they will take care of your concern.
With all that said, we are confident to say that Cyberghost might serve you as your next gaming VPN, especially if you need something for more than a year. We're not sure if console gamers will be as happy, but thanks to the fact that Cyberghost offers a refund option for up to a certain number of days of using their software, you can try it out for yourself with no risk of losing any money.
