Is Marathonbet Legit? [Marathonbet Esports Review]
Is Marathonbet Legit?
Marathonbet is a legit sportsbook, casino, and esports betting site with a very appealing betting offer. Here are four things you should know about Marathonbet and why we believe it’s legit.
- Marathonbet is a privately held company.
- It owns a Curacao betting licence (8048/JAZ)
- Marathonbet has been operating since 1997
- According to similarweb, Marathonbet averages over 800k monthly visits
Marathonbet is one of the most recognisable names in the online sports betting world and is one of the most visited online bookies for sports and esports bettors. With over 800k monthly visits, it ranks as one of the most visited sportsbooks in the world.
Moreover, on top of holding a Curacao betting licence, Marathonbet also owns a licence issued by the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (Spain) and has a concession granted by the Customs and Monopoly Agenca (ADM) for operation in Italy. So even though its betting licence is not the most reputable, Marathon clearly does everything in its power to provide a regulated and safe betting environment for its customers.
And did we mention that Marathon is an official sponsor of Manchester City?
We have found nothing that would suggest Marathon is not a legit sports and esports bookmaker during our testing and research. And as such, we can confidently say that Marathonbet is a legit betting site.
Welcome Bonus and the best Promo Codes
Marathonbet has a welcome bonus ready for all new customers in the form of a cashback promotion (up to €120) for accumulator bets. Admittedly, its terms of having to be used in an accumulator aren’t the best, but you can’t complain about free money. Furthermore, there are more than enough other promotions on the site, so you can rest assured that you won’t be left empty-handed.
To collect the welcome bonus, you need to use Bonus Code “FASTFB” when making your first deposit and then complete the requirements.
Know that the aforementioned bonus was available during our testing, and it lasted for only a month. Meaning that you might find a different welcome bonus, depending on when you visit Marathonbet.
How To Claim Marathonbet Welcome Bonus & Bonus Code
To collect Marathonbet’s welcome bonus, you don’t have to do much more than what you would expect from other betting sites. Here are three steps you need to take:
- Create an account with Marathonbet by clicking on “Join Now”.
- After you have created and verified your account, click on “Deposit” and select your preferred method.
- On the next page, you select the amount of money you want to deposit, click on “I have a promo code”, and input the Bonus Code “FASTFB”.
If you follow these three steps, you will be eligible for the welcome bonus. Just remember to check the bonus requirements or contact customer support to provide you with the details.
Marathonbet Bonus & Promotions (3.5/5)
Besides the welcome bonus, Marathonbet also takes care of its existing users with an excellent selection of promotions, readily available under the “Promotions” tab. And if we were to say that Marathon has a very generous selection of promotions, it would be an understatement.
We can’t tell you which promotions you will find since they’re constantly changing, but there are a couple that will always be available. Including Acca Insurance, 0% margin, Bore Draw refund, and reload bonuses, dubbed “Deposit Days”. We even found a special promotion for St. Patrick’s day, which is a further testament that Marathonbet does indeed update its offers regularly.
Unfortunately, there was not a single promotion for esports. And while there are many bonuses ready, very few can be used by esports bettors. On a more positive note, esports bets will count towards your Marathon welcome bonus, and there is a Loyalty program in place that also works with esports bets.
With that in mind, Marathonbet does have something for those who want to bet on esports, but it could do a better job, so we’re giving it a 3.5/5 rating. If you’re looking for great esports promotions, a site like ThunderPick might be a better choice.
Reputation & Safety (5/5)
If you’re worried about the safety of Marathon, you really shouldn’t be. This is one of the most reputable and well-known online betting sites in the world, and it didn’t get that recognition for scamming its users or providing mediocre betting services.
Admittedly, it owns a Curacao betting licence, which isn’t the most reputable licence out there, but that does not mean Marathon is in the business of scamming its customers. Nor could it be around since 1997 had it been a scam site. To put it into perspective, people that are legally allowed to bet on Marathonbet haven’t even been born when it has already been operating.
Interestingly, online review sites have Marathonbet rated very low (1.9/5), but this is a perfect example of online review sites not giving a proper rating. In contrast, reputable betting forums have Marathonbet rated at B+, which is the same rating highly respected bookies such as FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM are getting.
Moreover, Marathonbet also has Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (Spain) licence and a concession granted by the Customs and Monopoly Agenca (ADM). And if that’s not enough, it’s an official sponsor of Manchester City, so you can be sure it’s a legit and safe site.
Not only can you feel safe providing Marathonbet with your personal information, but Marathonbet can also guarantee that your money will be safe. A well-deserved 5/5 rating.
Esports Markets and Odds & Betting Features (4/5)
Marathonbet is primarily a sports betting site, but it does offer esports betting and does so well. On Marathonbet, you will be able to bet on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2, Call of Duty, King of Glory, Valorant, and FIFA, meaning this bookie covers most of the most prominent esports titles.
Marathonbet also does a good job offering various betting markets on its esports games, and we can’t say we were disappointed with the selection. You’re able to bet on moneyline, handicaps, totals, various proposition bets and much more, so we have no complaints here.
But the biggest positive of Marathonbet is the quality of the esports betting odds. We looked over several other esports bookmakers, including 1Bet, Rivalry, and GG.Bet, and not a single one had better odds than Marathonbet.
That doesn’t mean we can guarantee you that Marathonbet will always have the best odds available. But our testing found that the esports betting odds on this bookie are anywhere from 0.01 to 0.15 better compared to its competition.
Marathonbet might not be an esports bookie, but its coverage of esports and the quality of the betting experience it can provide to esports bettors is excellent!
Marathonbet’s coverage of CS:GO is solid, but it’s not great. While the offered betting odds are quite decent, and there are enough bet types for you to bet on whatever you want, we would like to see more CS:GO tournaments covered.
In its defence, Marathonbet has all of the bigger CS:GO tournaments available, but in comparison to other esports betting sites, it is missing a few events. So if you’re someone who bets on bigger events, you should be fine using Marathonbet, but if you also like to bet on second-division tournaments, you might want to look for better options elsewhere.
Dota 2 Betting
Marathonbet’s coverage of Dota 2 is better - it has available betting markets on all upper and lower-division Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) events. Of course, comparing Dota 2 coverage to CS:GO isn’t fair, knowing that there are fewer Dota 2 events.
Nevertheless, we can assure you you will enjoy betting on Dota 2 with Marathonbet. It has solid odds and plenty of bet types available. And that’s all you can wish for.
League of Legends Betting
Marathonbet does a fine job covering League of Legends, but it has a similar issue to CS:GO, where it covers all major events and some minor competitions – but is missing a few. Still, the odds are good, and there are enough available betting markets, including moneyline, handicaps, totals, map betting, and proposition bets.
So while we wouldn’t call Marthonbet’s coverage of LoL the best, it is still very solid. As long as you are someone who mainly bets on the major regions and international events, Marathonbet has got you covered.
Other esports covered by Marathonbet – Valorant, King of Glory, CoD, and FIFA – have a similar issue where only the major events are covered. Moreover, we have encountered a situation where odds on Valorant weren’t available, even though a fairly important tournament was scheduled to start in two days. That is not ideal, but we have to note that this was not a reoccurring issue with the site.
User Experience (4.5/5)
Marathon has a well-made website that works without any issues. It’s fast, responsive and has all the features you would want to see. However, the layout of betting markets could be better.
That is, however, a completely subjective opinion that does not suggest that the overall design of Marathonbet is bad. But it could be clearer, which it could perhap sachieve by using a different colour scheme.
Besides that, we have found no problems with Marathonbet. You won’t have a hard time finding anything you might be searching for - everything except for esports live streams. Even though you can bet on live esports games, Marathonbet does not have a live streaming option, which is a problem we can’t ignore.
On a more positive note, Marathonbet has a mobile betting app and a mobile site. Moreover, both work well and are well designed, perfect for anyone who wants to bet on their mobile devices.
In conclusion, Marathon does many things right, but since it is missing live streams of esports matches, we can’t give it a 5-star rating.
Customer Support (5/5)
Marathonbet has a solid customer support department, and we have found no issues with it. Besides offering email support ([email protected]), Marathonbet also has a mobile number (+44 1273 964706), which you can use to contact customer support agents and a live chat function which we tested and were pleasantly surprised.
The live chat worked smoothly, and we had to wait for just a couple of seconds to get connected with an agent, which is surprisingly fast for a bookie with over 800k monthly visits. Moreover, the support agents were professional and provided us with the answers fast and efficiently.
Marathonbet also has a FAQ section which you can find under “Help”, which is well made can provide you with all the answers you could want. All in all, Marathonbet’s customer support is excellent, and this is one of the few bookies to which we can give a five-star rating without a second thought.
Deposits & Withdrawal Options (5/5)
Banking is another department for which Marathonbet deserves a huge thumbs up, both due to the large selection of deposit/withdrawal options that are available and the fast and secure processing of your money.
Know that the deposit/withdrawal options will vary depending on which currency you are using and your location. Still, that doesn’t take away from the fact that Marathonbet has all the deposit methods you would want, including Visa, MasterCard, Skrill, NETELLER, WebMoney, ecoPayz, Perfect Money, MuchBetter, Jeton, PaySafeCard, bank transfer, AstroPay, AdvCash, Maracoin. It even accepts crypto deposits with Litecoin, Ripple, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin, and Tether.
If you wish to withdraw money from your Marathonbet betting account, you can use most of the same options that are available to you for depositing money, so you can rest assured you won’t struggle to move money from and into Marathonbet. Moreover, the processing times are surprisingly fast, and the limits are solid, neatly displayed next to the Deposit/Withdraw button.
Overall, Marathonbet’s banking department is one of the best we’ve seen, and we found nothing to complain about. We could mention that it doesn’t accept deposits in CS:GO and Dota 2 skins like LOOT.BET, but can you really complain about that?
Marathonbet Casino (3/5)
Besides offering sports and esports betting, Marathonbet also has a casino and a live casino, both of which are well made. Moreover, Marathonbet does an excellent job convincing you to try out its casino offer with a plethora of great bonuses and promotions exclusive to slots or live casinos, so there are reasons to give it a go, but obviously, you should keep it in moderation.
We cannot confirm the exact number of many casino games available on Marathonbet, but the number is around 2800. Moreover, Marathonbet works with over 40 casino games providers, so you can rest assured there is plenty of variety.
There’s also a demo version available for all games, and they work smoothly, without any issues, so as far as the casino offer is concerned, Marathonbet deserves a big thumbs up. Likewise, the live casino offer is solid, and there are enough games (roulette, blackjack, monopoly, poker) available to keep anyone satisfied.
Even though Marathonbet’s casino offer is great, it does not have a provably fair system, for which we have to deduct two points from our rating. But know that the lack of a provably fair system does not mean that Marathonbet will scam you.
When asked about the provably fair system, a support agent responded:
“Marathonbet takes sporting and betting integrity very seriously. We work with our Gaming Regulators and independent Sports Associations to help ensure that the fairness of gaming and the integrity of sport are protected.”
So even though we can confidently say that Marathonbet casino games are (likely) fair, there are certain rules we have to follow when giving our ratings.
Marathonbet online sports betting site and casino site first, but thanks to one of the most competitive esports betting odds in the industry and excellent coverage of esports events, Marathonbet is a bookie for any esports bettor should visit. Just remember to gamble responsibly and within limits.
