In World Of Tanks there are a number of approaches that one can adopt. You can be a tactical player that likes to time shots and hide under cover, players that enjoy drawing fire and allowing teammates to advance and flank the enemy. Though, arguably the most fun way to enjoy this title’s action is by being on the front foot, firing at enemy tanks and being the one who destroys foes.
Well, one can only be the best destroyer on the battlefield if they have the best tools to do so. Unsurprisingly, each tank has its positive and negative aspects, making some of these tanks more capable in a gunfight than others. For this reason, we have compiled a list of the eleven best destroyer tanks in World of Tanks. So if you want to be the assault leader and be the deciding factor in a flurry of artillery, check out this list.
First up we have the Soviet-built premium tank, the SU-122-44. This Russian goliath is an absolutely brilliant tank to use for its destructive capabilities. This one has an outstanding rate of fire and damage per minute of 2925. In addition to this, the SU-122-44 has excellent manoeuvrability and speed, making it a great flanker. Then the tank’s excellent camouflage rating makes this one a sneaky assassin able to get the drop on enemy tanks.
The main issues for this tank tend to be its rather troublesome aim time, lack of gun depression and due to no preferential matchmaking, this one can still link up with tier nine heavies that will have no problem penetrating this tank impressive frontal armour. Overall though, this machine packs a real punch on that battlefield, making it one of the strongest destroyers in its tier. Pick this one up and give it a try.
Sticking with the Soviet theme, we have the Object 263. This heavy tank has an excellent amount of firepower which makes it a viable destroyer. Though, it’s the other factors that allow this heavy to get into great positions to destroy enemies. It’s great frontal armour and excellent mobility and speed considering its size make it great at taking up threatening positions on the battlefield. Then when you get there, the excellent gun handing and aim time will help you cut enemies down to size.
The downsides to this vehicle is its poor overall accuracy and its weak roof armour, making it susceptible to artillery fire. As a whole, this tank offers a real powerhouse of a tank to use as a destroyer. So if you want to be the intimidating force leading the line, the object 263 is an excellent choice.
Rheinmetall Skorpion G
Now we have some German-engineered brilliance with the Rheinmetall Skorpion G. This tank has one of the best alpha damage ratings in its tier, with the second-highest amongst tier eight tanks. Not only this but the tank also boasts an excellent shot accuracy and good penetration as well. This with the addition of the Skorpion G’s decent top speed and acceleration makes it quite the formidable destroyer indeed.
The issues with this tank tend to be its dispersal when moving, making it unable to pull off snapshots. It’s vulnerable due to poor armour ratings and low camouflage ratings. Plus this tank does have a long aim time as well. Though, if you are able to look past these issues, the speed and power of this vehicle make it a high risk but high reward vehicle. If this sounds like your style, give this one a go.
Now we have another German tank but this time its a tier two pocket rocket. The Panzerjager I is an excellent tank for going on the offensive. With an excellent rate of fire, an alpha damage capable of 60dmg per shot, good penetration and the best accuracy stats in the tier. This one is a phenomenal piece of machinery when taking on enemy vehicles in a gunfight.
The biggest downside to this vehicle is the flimsy armour which makes you very vulnerable if caught napping. Although, if you’re the first to fire in every situation, its likely you’ll come out on top in this German destroyer. Give this one a try and see what it has to offer.
Now we have an American joining the party in the form of the T67. This tier five tank has an incredible rate of fire and has great alpha damage to compliment this. It also comes with a 360° traversable turret, ten degrees of gun depression, and reasonable top speed of 61Kmph, making it reasonably mobile too.
The common issues with this tank is its flimsy armour, making it vulnerable to pretty much any tank, plus a low HP pool and limited ammo capacity. It’s about making shots count and avoiding enemy fire in than vehicle. If you can do this, then you are sure to reap the rewards of this powerhouse. See if this one is a good fit for you.
Another German monster makes the list in the form of the E25. This tank is one of the best in tier seven with power and mobility being key to its success. It’s a fast tank for its class, being able to keep up with light tanks. It also has a low profile and one of the highest camouflage ratings in the game, making this one ideal for stealth attacks and scouting. This stealth coupled with its incredible DPM, gun handing and accuracy makes this one of the best destroyers on offer to players.
Downsides to this vehicle is the lack of ammo capacity often rendering you helpless if not careful. Plus this one is often the priority target when spotted by the enemy, so expect an onslaught of tanks to converge on your position. Though, if you can handle the pressure that comes with this, the E25 is a brilliant vehicle that will aid you in laying waste to your foes.
Now we have a Swedish tank joining the ranks. The Udes 03 is a phenomenal destroyer due to its excellent versatility. This tank has a hydraulic suspension, meaning that it has great gun handling, brilliant gun depression and elevation, plus excellent range. The tank also reaches decent top speeds and has excellent shot accuracy and aiming time. Not to mention that the Udes 03 also has 288mm of penetration with standard rounds, making it the best in its tier in this respect.
Issues with this one tend to be its low health pool, its susceptibility to engine damage due to a front-mounted engine and its low ammo capacity. This one is made for players that like a variety of options and the ability to change their tactical approach on a dime. If this sounds like you, give this one a go.
You wait for one and then two come at once, another Swedish tank in the form of the Strv 103-0. This one, much like the one listed above, offers wonderful penetration which is the highest in its tier. Then on top of this, offers excellent mobility, even on rough terrain and has an excellent reverse speed that almost matches its forward speed. This gives you an easy exit strategy if everything goes south in battle. Though, with a decent DPM of 2722, this will be a rarity.
Things to be mindful of will be its low health pool, poor traversal times in siege mode and guns with 120mm calibre rounds and above will tear through your armour pretty easily. This one is a powerhouse that is great for rushing in and out of fire. Getting some powerful hits in and retreating swiftly to plan your next move. If this is your game plan, then the Svrt 103-0 will be your key to success.
We go back to German machinery with the Grille 15. This tank has great alpha damage of 750, incredible range and boasts the most accurate gun with the fastest aiming times in the game. The tank also has a respectable speed considering its size and decent gun depression into the bargain as well. This all culminates to make this one a sure shot and a powerful one too.
The common gripes with this tank are related to its poor armour, the front engine that causes the gun to get damaged regularly and the camouflage rating is pretty lacklustre as well. It’s another high risk for a high reward sort of vehicle but with such a powerful and accurate shot, its hard to look past this one. If this one intrigues you, give it a try.
We move back to the land of stars and stripes with the tier 10 destroyer, the T110E3. This powerhouse has a formidable DPM, shot accuracy and has decent penetration. This coupled with the abnormally strong gun mantlet, cupola and frontal armour. It makes this tank an incredible asset when face to face with enemy tanks. In addition, it also has -8° of gun depression, making hull-down tactics viable as well.
The problems that can arise with this tank stem from its weak side and rear armour, plus its sluggish traversal speed, making this tank susceptible to ranking tactics. Then in addition to this, the gun handling is pretty poor as well. Overall though, this tank has a lot to offer through its strong front armour and devastating DPM. So if taking enemies face on is your go-to tactic, try the T110E3.
Then lastly on our list, we have the Su-100. This tier six destroyer packs a real punch in terms of firepower. It has alpha damage of 390, 175mm penetration and DPM of 1900. On top of this arsenal, the SU-100 also has excellent mobility, allowing you to take up great positions and make the most of the insane power of this vehicle.
The downsides to this tank is that the accuracy is pretty poor. Plus, with such a small health pool and flimsy frontal armour, close-quarters combat isn’t really an option to negate this issue. This one is the epitome of high risk for high reward kind of vehicle. So if this is your game plan, the SU-100 could be for you.
How to be good with Tank Destroyers (tips and tactics)
So now you have all the information needed to make a logical and informed choice on which Tank Destroyer to use. This is great but if you don’t have the knowledge to use this tank effectively, you might as well turn your powerful gun on yourself. So we have put together a set of tips so that you can play to the best of your ability in a tank destroyer. Have a look below.
The key to making the most of your hard hitting tank is by keeping a low profile. If your tank gets spotted, often TDs won’t have enough defensive capabilities to protect themselves effectively. So what you’ll want to do is use your teammates as scouts to spot enemies. Then get yourself into a hidden area and get as many shots in as possible. Preparing and getting the first shot in a battle is essential with TD’s because being second to fire could mean you going up in smoke.
Know when to quit
If you and your comrades are trying to take a flank and you find yourself suddenly alone, do not try and hold the flank. With your low armour rating and lack of mobility in most cases, you simply don’t have the resources to succeed. The best thing to do is retreat with your best armour visible and try to link up with remaining teammates.
Know the battlefield
Concealment is the name of the game when it comes to tank destroyer gameplay, so if you don’t know the best places to hide, your basically asking to be detected. The maps are all pretty small, allowing you to memorize every nook and cranny where you can get an advantage on enemy tanks. The best spots are spots with double bushes for maximum concealment and spaces with long lines of fire.
