What do I need to know about the leaderboard?

• To have 300+ matchmaking games during your lifetime (this includes unranked and ranked games).
• To have 100+ ranked games during your lifetime.
• To have 14+ ranked games in the last 21 days within the same division.

This system is in place to prevent smurfing and other types of unwanted activities. In other words, it is hard for the same player to have several Immortal accounts. However, there are a few things that will make it easier to meet these requirements. For example, if someone abandons the game or times out, but the MMR is still updated, the game will count towards the leaderboard requirements.

How does the Dota 2 ranking system work?

Dota 2 relies on MMR or matchmaking rating to categorize all of the players. It is a numeric value system that goes from 0 to 12,000+ points. The Dota 2 system doesn't have an upper ceiling, so the best players are always pushing its boundaries.

When you first create an account, you will have the initial placement games. These 10 calibration games would allow the algorithm to assess your skill level. Although the system is pretty solid, there might be some fluctuation due to a lack of data. When you finish these games, you will be assigned an appropriate MMR, and you will be placed in a certain bracket.

MMR fluctuations might be very volatile at first, but once you play a certain number of games, you will receive (or lose) between 5 to 30 MMR for every game. An average game awards them 25 MMR.
