What's the highest MMR and rank in Dota 2 worldwide?

Having the highest MMR in Dota 2 was always a question of pride. Being the highest ranked Dota 2 player in the world is no small feat, especially when we consider the complexity of the game, as well as the fame involved.

1

Given that this game has been around for quite a while, a lot of gamers have changed at the top of the ladder. They are the top tier competitors who have shaped the face of Dota 2 but also esports.

Who has the highest MMR in Dota 2?

Historically speaking, the record for the highest MMR is held by 23savage, who managed to reach the 12,000+ MMR threshold on the 2nd of March 2021.

Each division has its leaderboard. You can play in the Americas, Europe, South East Asia, and China. Given that each one of these divisions is different, with different mentality, skill level, and playstyle, it is really hard to compare them to each other. Because of that, players with the same MMR might not be exactly the same in terms of skill level if they belong to different divisions.

At the moment of writing this article, TLN.23savage.BEAST was the highest-ranked player in the world and he plays on the SEA server (which is one of the best servers in dota 2). As for the other divisions, Na`Vi. No[o]ne-.GGBET is first in Europe, twitch.tv./milandota is first in the Americas and VG.Xm has the highest score in China.

Keep in mind that these ratings are changing all the time so, by the time you’re reading this article, someone else could be at the top of the list.

What is the highest rank in Dota 2?

As previously mentioned, the highest rank is Immortal. A lot of players who are in this category are professional Dota 2 players. Furthermore, when you reach Immortal, you will be assigned a number that represents your position in the division (if you manage to get to the top 1000, that is).

4

People who are on the Immortal level represent some of the most skilled players, not only in Dota 2, but gaming in general. They have quick reaction time and the ability to make good, split-second decisions. Oftentimes, it takes more than just knowledge or skill to penetrate this tier. You need to have a lot of talent to reach the highest echelons of the competition. Also, we provided a guide on the average rank in Dota 2.

What do I need to know about the leaderboard?

In order to get to the top players' leaderboard, you have to meet the following requirements:

  • To have 300+ matchmaking games during your lifetime (this includes unranked and ranked games).
  • To have 100+ ranked games during your lifetime.
  • To have 14+ ranked games in the last 21 days within the same division.

This system is in place to prevent smurfing and other types of unwanted activities. In other words, it is hard for the same player to have several Immortal accounts. However, there are a few things that will make it easier to meet these requirements. For example, if someone abandons the game or times out, but the MMR is still updated, the game will count towards the leaderboard requirements.

Once you start playing ranked matches, you can get acquainted with the system and eventually, you might even consider going pro. Dota 2 is renowned for its amazing prizes but also grueling seasons. For example, here is how Dota 2 Pro Circuit will look like in 2021 - 2023:

There are also a few things you need to know about the divisions. Each one of them has 3 separate regional servers:

  • Americas: US West, US East, South America
  • Europe: Europe West, Europe East, Russia, South Africa
  • China: Perfect World Telecom, Perfect World Unicom
  • Southeast Asia: South Korea, SE Asia, Australia

Leaderboards are updated every hour. That means that you can get fresh results all the time, and learn who is at the top of the division. As previously mentioned, each one of the players within a division has its MMR, but they’re really not comparable across different divisions.

How does the Dota 2 ranking system work?

Dota 2 relies on MMR or matchmaking rating to categorize all of the players. It is a numeric value system that goes from 0 to 12,000+ points. The Dota 2 system doesn't have an upper ceiling, so the best players are always pushing its boundaries.

6

When you first create an account, you will have the initial placement games. These 10 calibration games would allow the algorithm to assess your skill level. Although the system is pretty solid, there might be some fluctuation due to a lack of data. When you finish these games, you will be assigned an appropriate MMR, and you will be placed in a certain bracket.

MMR fluctuations might be very volatile at first, but once you play a certain number of games, you will receive (or lose) between 5 to 30 MMR for every game. An average game awards them 25 MMR. So, in theory, you would need to have 40 more wins than losses if you wish to increase your overall rating by 1000.

What are Dota 2 brackets?

Dota 2 brackets are a system meant to put players with a similar skillset in a similar tier. Of course, as you gain or lose points, you will move up or down the brackets. Here are all tiers and how much MMR you need for each one of them starting with the lowest rank:

All of these categories have subcategories ranging from 1 to 5. The only exception is the Immortal rank, which has the smallest percentage of dota 2 players. Immortal gamers are categorized based on the position on their respective server. So, there are 36 tiers in total.

8

As you progress up the brackets, players will have similar skills and knowledge. Oftentimes, the difference between 5k player and 6k player will be in the ability to retain focus under pressure and pay attention to details. The skill gap between lower tiers is much more noticeable. For example, someone who is in the 1k tier barely has any basics, while the 2k tier might have the understanding of most concepts.
