Is Call of Duty Warzone Cross Platform?
Call of Duty has seen nothing but colossal success each year, and series’ like Modern Warfare and Black Ops have only cemented its place as the most popular products of the gaming industry. The most notable Call of Duty title in recent years was the Call of Duty: Warzone battle royale mode. This title basically revived Call of Duty, and brought it back from the grip of irrelevance with its cross-platform compatibility.
Is Call of Duty Warzone Cross-Platform?
Call of Duty Warzone can be played with people across multiple platforms, and that will likely never change. Cross-platform play in general was first added to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019, and it continues to be a prominent feature in newer Call of Duty titles. The main reason why crossplay proved fruitful lies behind Warzone.
Warzone was headed for much bigger pastures, and Activision wanted to tap into a larger audience by allowing platform and cross-progression play. Not only did this help Warzone, but it also somewhat revived the multiplayer mode.
How Do You Crossplay on Warzone?
If you want to play Warzone with anyone, despite their platform, you’re going to need an Activision/Call of Duty account. Even if you didn’t plan on playing with someone from a different platform, having an Activision account is still recommended. Who knows, you may meet people who don’t play on your platform sometime in the future, it’s always good to be prepared.
As of now, the only platforms that you can cross-play in Warzone with are PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. This list is most likely not subject to change because of Warzone 2, which is steadily creeping up on us. However, all of these platforms combined still make for a very large player base, and we doubt that Warzone will die after its successor comes out later this year.
Why was Cross-Platform Play added to Call of Duty?
Playing the same game with people on different platforms in Call of Duty was a widely disputed topic in the gaming industry. Player bases were very split on the matter, as people weren’t sure how widespread cross-platform would impact their overall experience in multiplayer games, and if playing on the same platform would suffice.
Does Warzone 2 Have Cross-Play?
Warzone 2 has full cross-platform support. Crossplay became a must-have feature that players expect, and due to how much anticipation there is for Warzone 2.
Activision themselves haven’t confirmed it yet, but there’s no reason why they would intentionally exclude it. It’s been such a big part of their previous games, and it doesn’t require any extensive work to implement. Allowing players from all platforms to connect through Modern Warfare 2 helps in every way - the more the merrier.
Is there Cross-Platform Progression in Call of Duty
There are many pros and cons to crossplay, but let’s focus on one of the advantages of crossplay in the newer titles and Warzone. Crossplay is good enough on its own, but it also incentivized Activision to allow for cross-progression between games. For example, if you owned and played all three Call of Duty titles that are linked to Warzone, you’d have everything unlocked for your light machine guns unlocked in Warzone as well.
This system helped connect all three games, and even revived games that were headed for failure. You could unlock camos and attachments in Warzone itself, but it took much longer than if you were to play the title that the guns were imported from.
With all of that being said, we hope that every Call of Duty game in the future has cross-platform compatibility. It is an essential part of modern gaming, and will be integrated into every aspect of the gaming world. Even with all of its flaws, there’s a reason why Call of Duty bounces back from Activision’s shortcomings.
