1280x960 (4:3 Stretched)
Though settings such as stretched resolutions are purely dependent on preference, we can confidently say that the 1280x960 resolution is hands-down the best resolution used by professional players.
Here are the FPS changes during our testing of the 1280x960 resolution:
Resolution + Aspect Ratio | FPS In Aim Botz |
Native 1920x1080 (16:9) | 630 |
Stretched 1280x960 (4:3) | 737 (17% Increase) |
We got a 17% increase in performance after switching to 1280x960 from 1920x1080.
Almost 45% of the top professional CS2 (CSGO) players use the 1280x960 stretched resolution.
Some professional players that use 1280x960 include:
ZywOo
s1mple
device
m0nesy
Twistzz
If you couldn’t sense a trend from the players mentioned above, the 1280x960 resolution is popular amongst AWPers. This is because the bodies of enemy players become wider, making it easier for players to hit AWP shots. Three of the best AWPers in the world are using this resolution, so you should definitely try it out if you’re an AWP player!
However, if you are on a lower-end PC, the 1280x960 resolution will give you the lowest performance out of all 4:3 aspect ratios. The higher the resolution, the lower the performance, which is why the native resolution of 1920x1080 gives the least FPS in full screen.
1024x768 (4:3 Stretched)
The 1024x768 stretched resolution is the lowest possible resolution you can get. Being the lowest resolution means that the 1024x768 resolution is the best stretched resolution to increase your FPS performance. We recommend using this resolution if you have a low-end PC!
Here are the FPS changes during our testing of the 1024x768 resolution:
Resolution + Aspect Ratio | FPS In Aim Botz |
Native 1920x1080 (16:9) | 630 |
Stretched 1024x768 (4:3) | 824 (31% Increase) |
We got a 31% increase in performance after switching to 1024x768 from 1920x1080.
Around 16% of the top professional CS2 (CSGO) players use the 1024x768 stretched resolution.
Some professional players that use 1024x768 include:
sh1ro
XANTARES
kennyS
frozen
jks
Though we still see some of them, the 1024x768 is less popular for AWPers and is mainly used by riflers. Enemy bodies will still become wider, so hitting enemy players and their heads will be easier than a standard 16:9 display.
Note that the 1024x768 is the resolution that will display the least amount of your screen. Displaying the least amount can allow you to focus on what’s in front of you more, but it will also mean that you will miss out on what’s around you.

1280x1024 (5:4 Stretched)
The last resolution on the list is unique, as it follows a 5:4 aspect ratio instead of the regular 4:3 stretched ratio. Still, the 5:4 custom resolution is considered a stretched resolution.
1280x1024 is the highest stretched resolution, so it won’t have the most significant impact on improving performance. But you will see more of your screen, which covers the most significant disadvantage of the stretched resolutions.

You can change your stretched resolution through the adjust desktop size option and display settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel or the AMD Radeon Software.
