What Can You Do With Amethyst In Minecraft?

Amethyst shards, clusters, blocks, and geodes are part of the Caves and Cliffs update of Minecraft. They are the new purple-colored blocks that can be found while spelunking or digging around in your world.

Where Can You Find Amethyst Geodes In Minecraft?

There is no easy way to find amethyst geodes in Minecraft, since they do not have a predetermined location to spawn. Amethyst geodes can generate anywhere in the world, from as low as the bedrock all the way up to sea level. Look for any Smooth Basalt, Tuff, and Calcite block layers since they usually generate around amethyst geodes.

What Are Amethyst Blocks Used For In Minecraft?

Amethyst blocks are one of the variants of amethyst implemented recently in Minecraft. They are the most common block found generated in the geodes.

Amethyst blocks can be mined, but their purpose is purely decorative. They make a clinking musical tone when placed or walked on. Using an amethyst block in your doorway can become a notification bell when players (or even enemies) walk inside your house. You can also place an amethyst block near your friends to announce your presence or to prank them.

Another variant of amethyst is the budding amethyst block. These blocks are similar to regular amethyst blocks, but they have an x-marked crack on all of their sides. These cracks on budding amethyst blocks are where amethyst clusters grow. Currently, budding amethyst blocks cannot be moved or mined, even if you are using a pickaxe with a silk touch enchantment.

You can only destroy an amethyst cluster. Therefore, it is recommended to just leave them where you found them inside the amethyst geode so that amethyst clusters can grow. Similar to a regular block of amethyst, you can also use a silk touch pickaxe to mine an amethyst cluster and place it on other blocks as a decorative block.

What Are Amethyst Shards Used For In Minecraft?

Besides being decorative blocks, amethyst clusters can be harvested to get amethyst shards. Amethyst clusters have 4 stages of growth, as seen below. The small, medium, and large amethyst buds cannot be mined. The fourth and mature amethyst bud, however, can be harvested to get at least four amethyst shards or more. Also, placing four amethyst shards in a 2x2 crafting grid pattern will produce a block of amethyst.

3

Note: Mining amethyst clusters with a pickaxe that have a Fortune enchantment will increase the number of amethyst shards that will drop.

By letting even at least 1 amethyst cluster grow, you can have an infinite source of amethyst shards. However, remember that only full-grown amethyst clusters will drop amethyst shards when you mine them.

Amethyst shards or amethyst crystals have 2 main ways where you can use them to craft other items. These items include:

  • Tinted glass blocks
  • Spyglasses

To craft Tinted Glass

The main function of tinted glass is similar to a glass block as a decorative block to design your house. However, tinted glass blocks light completely, just like an opaque block.

Here are the steps to craft tinted glass:

  1. Gather at least four amethyst shards from an amethyst geode.

4

  1. Place a glass block in the center of the crafting grid.

5

  1. Surround the glass block with amethyst shards on its 4 edges. The corner slots should be empty.

6

  1. The result will create tinted glass.

7

To craft A Spyglass

A spyglass is used to zoom on a location where you are currently looking. However, the view is limited to a square box while using it.

The following steps are used to craft a spyglass:

  1. Gather at least 1 amethyst shard from a budding amethyst block with a mature cluster.

8

  1. Obtain at least two copper ingots by smelting raw copper ores in a furnace.

9

  1. Place the amethyst shard in any of the top row slot on the crafting table grid.

10

  1. Place the two copper ingots on the two slots below the amethyst shard.

11

  1. You now have a spyglass.

That is all you need to know about what you can do with amethyst in Minecraft.
