This post will show you 6 ways to get (almost) Free Rocket League Items. Stay tuned!
If there is one thing that live service games are loved for, it’s for the loot. Whether that be Fortnite and its skins, Apex Legends and its unlockable characters or Rocket League and it’s custom car decals.
Players initially come for the fun gameplay and refined mechanics. But often they stay for the love of collecting items, decals, cars and other items.
This is all part of the fun in Rocket League though you may be thinking that without in-game credits or using Microtransactions, it surely isn’t possible to gather a collection.
Well, this is far from the case.
There is a number of methods for gathering quite a respectable collection of in-game items. All of which is very easy to do and mostly occurs naturally through playing the game. So we thought that you could use a guide to run you through the best ways to earn goodies without putting your hand in your pocket.
Method 1: Redeeming Codes
Firstly, there are a number of in-game codes that can be entered on a certain menu. These codes when entered grant the player specific items as a reward for doing so. These are made available by the developers for a number of reasons. This may be for certain promotions, events or simply to offer a reward to astute gamers who come across these codes.
Though we understand that these may not be readily available to the player. So we’ve compiled a small list of codes that you can redeem to kick off your collection of great items. Here they are below:
- BEKIND: This code grants access to the VCR Topper
● COUCHPOTATO: This code gives you the Couch Potato Title
● TRUFFLESHUFFLE: This code gives you The Goonies Decal for Octane
● RLNITRO: This code gives you the Nitro Circus flag along with the Nitro Circus Decal
● POPCORN: This gives you the Popcorn Rocket Boost
Great, so you have some codes that you can redeem but you may be wondering how to do that. Well, we thought that might be the case. So here is a quick guide on how to redeem your new codes.
- First things first, you have to launch Rocket League and get yourself to the main menu screen.
- Once you’re on the main menu screen, look down until you see the extras tab and select it to continue.
- After this you’ll see an option that reads ‘redeem code’. Select this and there will be a space to enter the code. Enter this and the item will then be available in your inventory.
Method 2: Earn Credits and Items through the Rocket Pass
If you are familiar with any mainstream live service game, it’s likely that you came across a (season) pass system. This works on a seasonal basis, giving players a certain time frame to gain XP, move up through the ranks and gain the rewards that come with higher and higher levels.
What this system offers is unlike anything that you can earn outside of the pass.
Whether that be through natural play rewards or through buying items on the marketplace. These items are completely unique and unobtainable elsewhere. This means that if you aren’t playing with the Rocket pass enabled, you may miss out on these items forever.
The pass also offers players the chance to earn credits that can be used on the marketplace.
The marketplace is usually a host to a number of highly desired and premium items. So having the ability to play games to earn credits rather than dipping into your pockets is a blessing.
The player climbs ranks and levels in this system through playing games.
With wins and better performances in matches grants more XP. Even if you are on a particularly bad run of form, there are still other ways to boost your chances of climbing the Rocket Pass Levels. This comes through the challenge section.
This gives players a set of in-match challenges to complete. If the player is able to do so, they get an added injection of XP to their tally. The ideal way to use this to your advantage is to try and achieve these naturally through gameplay – all the while still achieving wins and performing well in matches. It can be difficult to marry the two at the same time but if done successfully, players will reap the rewards of the Rocket Pass much faster.
It can be argued that players get more than their money’s worth through this system. Plus, if they save their credits, it is possible to buy the pass for next season through the earned credits. It is an investment but a very fair one at just $9,99 (one-time if you often play RL).
Thankfully though, if you are uncomfortable with forking out for the pass. There is still a free version that offers a good deal of items for your collection. The rewards are more sparse and you’ll have to work hard to achieve them all. Though it is commendable that the game offers a completely free set of items to work towards.
Method 3: Redeeming collectables during special events for gold crates
Another way to gather amazing items for your collection is through the special events that occur often in the Rocket League community. To give you an idea of the events that have happened in recent memory, here is a quick list:
- Haunted hallows
- Frosty fest
- Spring fever
- Beach blast
- Anniversary event
- Radical summer
- Lucky lanterns
These events are usually themed and all the items on offer fall into this theme.
To earn these items, all players have to do is play games as normal. When they do, along with the usual XP that they will receive, there will also be a reward of a unique event currency. For example, in the most recent lucky lanterns event, this was aptly chosen to be lanterns.
What these collectables or event currency allows you to do, is purchase themed items. These are usually a selection of interesting decals, antenna customizations, car toppers, and wheel alloys. Though the premium item on offer is the gold crates that can be opened for very rare rewards. These are usually in limited supply but for the cost of simply playing the game, you’d be silly not to take advantage of the opportunity.
The crate that you can redeem is also specific to the event in question. For example, in the haunted hallows event, the crate was a ‘golden pumpkin’. It’s a nice touch that just adds some extra fun to the event.
Method 4: Participation and winning in Tournaments
Then there is the option of participating and winning tournaments to win items for your collection. There are a range of online tournaments that players can compete in that offer a range of rewards, with some of the more premium items on offer being quite desirable indeed.
Through winning and placing in these tournaments there is also the ability to gain credits as well. This means that players can put this towards a rocket pass or towards a premium item in the marketplace.
You may be wondering how to access this area and play in these tournaments. Well if you are on the main menu, there is a tournament section listed. Simply select this option and it will list before you the live and local tournaments that you can complete in. Plus if you want to see how the prizes are for these tournaments, there is a list of prizes and rewards available for you to peruse.
Method 5: Participate in Giveaways
Another way to get free in-game items in Rocket League is through giveaways. To join one, you just need to complete some kind of task to enter such as liking a post, placing a comment, or register an account somewhere, or by some other means. The best ones to join are held by small communities which can include Twitch streamers, Youtube content creators, Discord Communities.
To make things easier for you we created a list of the best creators who organize RL Giveaways to join.
Method 6: Ranked Places
Then lastly, we have the items that can be earned through your rank throughout the season. Technically, you only have to play 10 games to achieve your ranking. Though items are not awarded until the end of the season.
Once the season is over, the player is gifted with unique items that relate to each rank. So for every rank, you ascend you gain every rank below respective items. So a gold-ranked player will still receive silver and bronze items for example. These items are usually variations of the same item that reflects your rank. Last season, for example, the reward was a set of spinning wheels that showcased your rank through its color.
Look After Your Pennies
In a gaming landscape where pay-to-win and Microtransactions often dominate the narrative what has to be commended is Rocket League and Psyonix’s dedication to the idea of giving all players a chance to earn rewards (except for Credits, these are very hard to earn without paying). Whether that be through a paid method or not. It can often be unsettling to play in the same drab skin or vehicle against players with all the best gear.
So through these methods, every player has the chance to excel and flaunt their rewards.
Plus with so many ways to achieve credits as well as items, it allows players to have a chance to get the most desirable items in the game and perhaps save enough to get a full rocket pass without any cash injection.
It’s a very inclusive service with a cavalcade of options for players to earn rewards their own way. So take these tips and go add to your inventory!
