We'll have to break down some data to help us answer the main question of how many cases are opened in a day. We will use case opening statistics from September 2022 to August 2023 (one calendar year).
The table below displays the total number of CS2 (CSGO) cases opened for each month over the past year. The data was taken from a CS2 (CSGO) case tracker website:
Month | Total Cases Opened |
September 2022 | 23.8 Million |
October 2022 | 19.5 Million |
November 2022 | 18.9 Million |
December 2022 | 19.5 Million |
January 2023 | 21.6 Million |
February 2023 | 27.7 Million |
March 2023 | 39.5 Million |
April 2023 | 50.2 Million (New Record) |
May 2023 | 46.0 Million |
June 2023 | 33.3 Million |
July 2023 | 28.8 Million |
August 2023 | 28.6 Million |
Total Cases Unboxed In A Year | 357.4 Million |
Using this provided data, we can calculate how many cases are opened daily and get a rough estimate of how much money Valve can make from cases per day.
Number Of Cases Unboxed Every Day
Using data and further adjustments from the table above, around 357.4 million cases were opened in the past year.
By dividing the total amount by 365, we can conclude that over the past year, an average of 979,178 cases have been unboxed every day!
Honestly speaking, this is a staggering number of cases being opened every day. You can already imagine how much money Valve makes from cases.
How Much Money Does Valve Make From Cases Every Day?
For those unfamiliar, opening regular CS2 (CSGO) cases requires a Case Key, which costs $2.50.
However, some rare exceptions exist, like the Anubis Collection Package. The Anubis case is a cheap case that doesn't require a Case Key to open released in April 2023, which explains the significant increase in case openings that month.
After running the numbers by excluding temporary cases like the Anubis Collection Package, we can conclude that Valve makes an average of $2,250,000 per day from CS2 (CSGO) cases, or $67,500,000 a month! Remember that this performance is measured from September 2022 to August 2023.
Though this sounds like a lot already, we still have not accounted for the 15% cut Valve takes when cases or weapon skins are bought and sold in the Steam Marketplace!
Opening cases may sound tempting to unbox CS2 (CSGO) knives and make profit, but keep the risks and float wear probabilities in mind, as you might get a low float value knife in battle scarred condition.
