Restart Steam With Task Manager
Let’s start with simple fixes and get to lengthier solutions as we get more desperate. The first method is to do a simple restart of the Steam client, using the Task Manager for maximum effectiveness.
To restart your Steam client with the Task Manager, follow the steps below:
On Windows 11, hold Ctrl + Shift + Esc, or hit your Windows key and search for “Task Manager”.
Once the Task Manager is open, go to the Processes section and look for “Steam Client WebHelper”.
Right-click “Steam Client WebHelper” and click “End Task”.
Steam will completely close. Now, re-launch Steam like you normally would.
Restarting Steam with the Task Manager gives Steam a fresh reboot. If this method doesn’t work, let’s keep going.
Run Steam As An Administrator
If restarting Steam doesn’t work, you should try running Steam as an administrator. For this method, your Windows user must have admin permissions on the computer.
To run Steam as an administrator every time you open it, follow the steps below:
Look for your Steam shortcut on your Desktop.
Right-click Steam and go to Properties.
In the Steam Properties menu, go to the "Compatibility" section.
Under Settings, check the “Run This Program As Administrator” option.
Click “Apply” on the bottom right corner to save and apply your changes.
Your system will ask you for admin permissions to run Steam. Grant the permission.
Your Steam will run in administrator mode every time you open it. There is no reason to turn it off; it can fix other issues like black screens in CS2.
Verify The Integrity Of CS2 Game Files
Next, we’ll use a common solution to many CS2 issues, such as the “VAC Failed To Verify Your Game Session" issue, which is verifying the integrity of your CS2 game files.
Here’s how you can verify the CS2’s game files:
Head over to your Steam Library.
Right-click Counter-Strike 2 and click on Properties.
Then, go to the “Installed Files” section.
Finally, click on the “Verify Integrity Of Game Files” button .
Steam will automatically start verifying your game files. This process takes around 2 to 10 minutes. You don’t have to do anything; just wait until the process is completed and relaunch CS2.
Clear Your Steam’s Download Cache
The next issue is frequently used to solve the CS2 disk write error issue. We’ll clear cache files in our Steam’s download files this time.
To clear your Steam’s download cache, refer to the steps below:
Open your Steam client.
Click on the “Steam” buttonon the top left corner of your screen.
Here, go to the Settings menu.
In your Steam Settings menu, go to “Downloads”.
Scroll down until you see the option “Clear Download Cache”.
Then, click on the “Clear Cache”.
If four of these methods have not worked for you, we are getting desperate and will try more solutions provided below.
Repair Your Steam Library Folder
The following solution will clear any corrupted files in your Steam Library folder which have caused the CS2 disk write error for many users.
To repair your Steam Library folder, follow the steps below:
Open your Steam client.
Click on the “Steam” buttonon the top left corner of your screen.
Here, go to the Settings menu.
In your Steam Settings menu, go to “Storage”.
Click on the three horizontal dots on the right side of the menu.
Then, click “Repair Library”.
The process will take a bit of time, and you can leave it to process on its own.
Change Your Steam’s Download Server
Sometimes, being in the wrong Steam download server region can cause problems with your CS2’s disk write.
To ensure you are in the correct CS2 region, follow the steps below:
Open your Steam client.
Click on the “Steam” buttonon the top left corner of your screen.
Here, go to the Settings menu.
In your Steam Settings menu, go to “Downloads”.
At the very top, you will see your “Download Region”.
Make sure your region matches where you are geographically.
Even if you are in the correct country, you can try changing your region somewhere geographically nearby.
Update Your Steam Client
Another cause of the disk write error usually comes from your Steam client being outdated. It never hurts to ensure your Steam client is in the latest version.
To update your Steam client, follow this speedy procedure:
Open your Steam client.
Click on the “Steam” buttonon the top left corner of your screen.
Here, click “Check For Steam Client Updates”.
Steam will quickly check and update the client if it is outdated.
This solution is very quick but can be quite effective if your Steam client is out of date.
Reinstall Steam
If none of the seven methods above have solved the CS2 disk write error, the last resort solution is to uninstall Steam and install it fresh.
To uninstall Steam, follow the steps below:
Hit your Windows key and search “Add Or Remove Programs”.
In the search bar, look for Steam.
Once you have found Steam, click on the three dots, then click “Uninstall”.
Follow the on-screen instructions, and Steam will uninstall.
Next, we will install Steam like we usually do:
Go to the official Steam installation website using this link.
Then, click on the blue buttonthat says “Install Steam”.
Continue the installation process like you did the first time you did it.
Now, Steam will have a fresh installation and should fix the CS2 disk write error.
