Add The "autoconfig" Launch Option
The first and easiest fix to the black screen after start-up is to tweak your launch options slightly. In this case, we will add the "autoconfig" option, which is used to install a config, to your CS2 (CSGO) launch options.
To do so, follow the steps below:
Go to your Steam Library and right-click CS2 (CSGO)
Then, head over to Properties
Under the General tab, scroll down until you see Launch Options window
Type in "-autoconfig" in the text box below
Verify Integrity Of Game Files
The second solution is another simple procedure. For this method, we will be verifying the integrity of your CS2 (CSGO) game files.
Here's a step-by-step process on how you can do this:
Go to your Steam Library and right-click CS2 (CSGO)
Then, click on Properties
On the left side of the menu, click on Installed Files
Click on the Verify integrity of game files button
Steam will automatically begin verifying your files. The game files verifying process can take 2 to 10 minutes. After it is completed, try relaunching your game! Verifying your game files can also fix your CS2 (CSGO) not launching.
Updating Your Graphics Card Driver
Sometimes, a technical problem like this can be your graphics card's fault, usually because it may need to be updated.
Doing a quick check to see if your graphics card drivers are up-to-date can be a quick fix to your black screen issue, as playing CS2 (CSGO) without an optimal graphics card is not recommended. Follow the steps below:
Hit your Windows key and search for Device Manager
Then, look for Display Adapters
Click the drop-down menu, and you should see your graphics card name
Right-click on your graphics card and hit Update Driver
Then, click on Search automatically for drivers
If you have an outdated graphics driver, your system will automatically look for the updated version and install it. However, if your drivers are up-to-date, you might want to continue reading for another solution.
Disable Full-Screen Optimizations and Run As Administrator
For this step, we're going to be doing two things at once since they are both located in the same place:
Disable Full-screen Optimization
Run CS2 (CSGO) As Administrator
Follow the steps below!
Go to your Steam Library, right-click CS2 (CSGO), and click on Properties
Then, head over to Installed Files and click on Browse to open your Local Files tab
Right-click the CS2 (CSGO) application file, and click on Properties
Under the Properties window, hit Compatibility
In the Compatibility section, check Disable fullscreen optimizations and Run this program as administrator
Finally, click Apply
If this method doesn't work for you, you can always follow the same procedure and uncheck the two options.
Check For Windows Updates
If you've tried all the methods above, and none of them worked, we will have to get a little desperate. Sometimes, the issue comes from an outdated version of Windows, so it won't hurt to check for any updates.
Hit Windows + I, this will open the Settings menu
On the right-hand side, click Windows Updates
Click on the button that says Check For Updates
If there are any updates, Windows will ask you for confirmation to Download and Install
If you click Download and Install, simply wait for your device to restart
Disable In-Game Overlays
Another reason why you may be experiencing black screens is due to in-game overlays from applications, most commonly Steam and Discord. Turning off these overlays could really fix your black screen issue.
To disable the Steam Overlay:
Open your Steam Client and click on Steam on the top-left corner
Then, click on Settings
Look for the In Game settings
Uncheck Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game
To disable the Discord Overlay:
On the bottom left of Discord, click on the Gear icon next to the Deafen button
This will open up the Settings menu
Under Activity Settings, click on Game Overlay
Then, uncheck Enable in-game overlay
Reinstall CS2 (CSGO)
If none of these methods have worked for you, the last resort is to reinstall CS2 (CSGO). If you are willing to go through this option, follow the steps below:
Go to your Steam Library and right-click CS2 (CSGO)
Hover your mouse over Manage, then click Uninstall
After confirming, CS2 (CSGO) will begin uninstalling
Once the uninstallation is completed, go back to your Library to see that CS2 (CSGO) will be greyed out. Then, simply click Install and wait for the procedures.
