Anvil is a useful mid-game item in Minecraft that has many usages like rename items, repair tools/armors, and combining items with enchanted books to create powerful items. It can be used for decoration purposes, and mostly in blacksmith houses. To craft an Anvil, you will need a total of 31x Iron Ingot.

How to craft Anvil in Minecraft
#1 Collect 4x Iron Ingot
The basic way to get Iron Ingot is to smelt 1x Iron Ore/Deepslate Iron Ore/Raw Iron in the Furnace to get 1x Iron Ingot. You can find Iron Ore and its variant by mining both in the mountain and underground.

You can also find Iron Ingot in looted chests in most generated structures in Minecraft. They have a fairly high chance to contain 1-9x Iron Ingot.

If you have 1x Block of Iron, put it in the crafting grid to get 9x Iron Ingot.

Or if you have 9x Iron Nugget, combine them together in the crafting table to get 1x Iron Ingot.

#2 Collect 3x Block of Iron
The easiest way to get Block of Iron is by using 9x Iron Ingot in the crafting table.

Another way is to find Bastion Remnants in the Nether dimension. They have chests with a normal chance to contain 1-5x Block of Iron.

#3 Finish off crafting an Anvil
When you have 4x Iron Ingot and 3x Block of Iron, right-click the crafting table and place 3x Block of Iron in one row on the top, then 1x Iron Ingot in the middle of the grid, and 3x Iron Ingot in one row at the bottom to craft 1x Anvil.

You can also find 1x Anvil in the Woodland Mansion. It’s generated in the Forge room with the damaged state.
