10 Worst Villager Trades You Can Get in Minecraft

1 /10

Stone Hoe (1 Emerald)

First up one of the worst trades that comes from a novice toolsmith villager is a stone hoe for one emerald. When it comes to early-game tools in a survival world, a hoe will only help you to make a farm. But wasting an emerald rather than crafting a stone hoe or even a wooden one with the easiest materials to get is plain stupid!

When you level up a toolsmith to master, you may receive good trades like enchanted diamond tools making it better compared to other villager jobs. But avoid trading for the stone tools like the hoe they'll give you at the beginning unless you're actively trying to level up the villager!

Any Leather Armor Pieces (3-7 Emeralds)

Next up from novice and apprentice leatherworker villagers we have any type of leather armor, from chestplates to boots and caps. The chest plate tunic costs seven emeralds, the cap six emeralds, while the rest of the gear comes from three to five emeralds. You can easily mine and find iron in like 15 minutes to make better armor rather than use emeralds for leather gear!

When it comes down to it, leatherworker is one of the worst villager jobs in Minecraft. So try to avoid them with other villager professions to get better trades rather than this mid-tier armor!

Flint (1 Emerald and 10 Gravel)

When you're mining gravel, there's a 10% chance it will drop flint. This means you'll most likely get flint after every 10 gravel blocks you break. But if you waste an emerald alongside 10 gravel blocks at a Fletcher villager, you can get 10 flint! Since gravel spawns in clusters, you can easily mine to find flint and use it to make flint and steel instead of wasting an emerald for this almost useless trade.

You can also use flint to make arrows, though if you get the Infinity enchantment, then you won't need arrows ever again! Yet coming down to bad trades, the flint trade definitely doesn't do this item justice and can only be used to level up a Fletcher villager.

4 /10

Shears (2 Emeralds)

Although shears have a lot of uses in Minecraft, trading 2 emeralds for it from shepherd villagers just doesn't make sense, especially in the early game of a survival world! If you plan on using it to get quick wool and craft a bed, you can just steal a bed from the villagers.

Minecraft Worst Trades Shears

In late-game, you'll already have a lot of resources like iron. So you can easily craft shears only using 2 iron ingots instead of trying to trade emeralds.

5 /10

Empty Map (7 Emeralds)

Previously we saw trades for less significant emeralds, but trading 7 emeralds for an empty map from a novice cartographer villager is just too much. Crafting a map is done with a compass and some paper which you can easily get with a sugar cane farm.

Minecraft Worst Villager Trades Empty Map

If the empty map cost less emeralds, then considering the trade isn't a bad idea. But for 7 emeralds the price isn't worth it at all. Considering the cartographer, they don't have very good deals so definitely avoid them unless you're exploring the best adventure maps and trying to keep track of your progress!

6 /10

Compass (4 Emeralds)

Since we mentioned the compass briefly, we'll also check out a bad trade from an expert librarian who offers a compass for 4 emeralds. A compass is mostly used to find your spawn point. But you can press F3 on your keyboard and remember the coordinates rather than spend four emeralds to get a compass!

Besides the point, you can quickly craft a compass using some iron and Redstone that's fairly easy to find and mine. So there's no point in using any emeralds for it unless you're trying to get your librarian to the master level.

7 /10

Clock (5 Emeralds)

Unless you're mining underground and really need to know what time it is outside your Minecraft world, then you won't need a clock. And continuing the trend from previously with expert librarian villager, they'll also offer you a clock for 4 emeralds.

It seems as if librarian villagers offer the worst trades of all! Their best trade is probably enchanted books, which are give-or-take because you can get trades for bad books as well. So you'll need to be a bit lucky to get good trades off a librarian once you're making a villager trading hall!

8 /10

Diamond for Emerald Trade

The vast majority of trades, even the worst ones here, make a bit of sense if you're trying to get something useful or level up a villager by doing more trades. But trading a diamond for an emerald from an expert toolsmith and weaponsmith or journeyman armorer villagers has no worth whatsoever! You'll be better off trading raw meat with a butcher villager for emeralds than this.

Albeit these villager jobs have some of the best trades out there, like how armorers offer diamond armor pieces, this trade isn't worth it. Consider there are easier ways to get emeralds and it's much harder even at the best places to find diamonds. However, it seems that this trade might get changed in the future patches where you can get 42 emeralds for a block of diamonds from a Tyga armorer villager!

9 /10

Item Frame (7 Emeralds)

Getting back at the cartographer villager at the expert level they offer an item frame for 7 emeralds. You can craft an item frame with some sticks and leather which are some of the easiest items to get in Minecraft, and not waste any emeralds!

Minecraft Worst Trades Item Frame

If you're trying to get your cartographer at the master level, then the trade might be justified. But if you're just looking to show off some gear with item frames, use this trade only if you wish to throw your hard-earned emeralds away!

10 /10

Bane of Arthropods V Enchantment Book (1 Book and 62 Emeralds)

Last but not least we have a trade for the Bane of Arthropods V enchantment book from a novice librarian for a whopping 62 emeralds! This enchantment book will give you a damage increase only at specific mobs like spiders and bees, so you're better off sticking with some of the other best weapons enchantments than this one.

And that wraps it up for the worst villager trades. Minecraft has much better professions that offer decent trades, like the farmer villagers. So try sticking to them and the other best villager jobs in Minecraft so you won't mess up getting these worst trades of all time!
