The 10 Pokemon Best Against Steel Type Pokemon [Ranked]

1 /10

Primal Groudon

Primal Groudon is an extremely powerful ancient Legendary Pokémon whose two types make it a perfect choice to take on Steel type Pokemon. Using its powerful Primal Reversion ability it gains the Fire type.

Primal Groudon

As a Ground and Fire type Pokemon Primal Groudon gets STAB for powerful Fire and Ground type attacks such as Fire Blast and Earthquake or Earth Power, while also getting good access to Fighting type moves like Body Press or Focus Blast.

Not to mention its ridiculously powerful Attack and Special Attack stats

Primal Groudon is a ferocious, awe-inspiring Pokémon with a truly epic design that takes everything good about regular Groudon and kicks it up to eleven.

Primal Groudon's ability to hit Steel type Pokémon for all three weaknesses, its monstrous stats, and its eye-catching design make it the best choice to use against Steel types.

2 /10

Groudon

Not quite as good as Primal Groudon because it's a pure Ground type Pokémon, Groudon is still one of the absolute best counters to Steel type Pokemon - and for most of the same reasons as Primal Groudon!

Groudon

Groudon gets Fire, Ground, and Fighting type moves to use against Steel types to use for super effective damage, and as it's not a dual type Pokemon, only has Ground type's weaknesses to deal with.

This means that Groudon out of its Primal Reversion form is sometimes the more strategic choice.

With its simple yet easily recognizable design featuring a classic black and red color scheme Groudon is a favorite of many fans.

Great with physical moves or special moves, Groudon has a great movepool and and is a fantastic option for taking on Steel and other types!

3 /10

Heatran

A powerful Legendary Pokémon, Heatran is a Fire and Steel type Pokemon which means it takes only a quarter of the damage from Steel type moves, while getting STAB with Fire moves to deal double damage and more to Steel type Pokémon.

Heatran

Heatran has a good movepool for taking on Steel types, as it gets Fighting type and Fire type moves as well as some great Ground type attacks like Earth Power.

This versatility and its resistance to Steel is great for taking advantage of the Steel type Pokémon weaknesses!

4 /10

Great Tusk

One of the Past Paradox Pokemon from Pokemon Scarlet, Great Tusk is a real powerhouse of a prehistoric monster.

Its phenomenal Attack and Defense stats make it a real menace with physical attacks, and its great dual typing gives it brilliant options for moves that are super effective against Steel type Pokemon.

Great Tusk

Great Tusk gets a great spread of Ground and Fighting type attacks, while also getting Fire type Fire Fang, making it a truly effective counter to Steel types.

All this and one of the better Paradox designs to come out of either Scarlet or Violet! Great Tusk is a great choice.

5 /10

Infernape

Infernape is a good choice with great availability thanks to its presence in Generation IV remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as well as being readily available in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and the Scarlet and Violet DLC.

Steel type Pokemon are weak to both of Infernape's two types, Fighting and Fire, making it a good option in battle. Infernape is also resistant to Steel, meaning Steel type attacks only deal half damage to Infernape.

Infernape

Infernape gets great access to powerful moves to hit out at Steel type Pokemon, including heavy hitters like Flare Blitz, Close Combat, Aura Sphere, and even Ground type Earthquake!

But with its blazing hot design based on a legendary warrior it's no surprise that Infernape slaps hard!

6 /10

Blaziken

One of the best Fire type Pokemon, Blaziken is a seriously popular Pokémon with a striking design.

This Fire and Fighting type Pokemon strikes fear into the hearts of Steel type Pokémon everywhere, and gets great options for hitting all three Steel type Pokémon weaknesses.

Blaziken

And it does it all while having two advantageous type match ups! Resistant to Steel type moves and taking only half the damage from them, Blaziken is a great choice against many Steel type Pokémon.

Blaziken is good with either physical or special attacks, making it a versatile choice especially because of its flexible movepool.

But Blaziken can also Mega Evolve in the right formats, becoming the powerful - and super cool - Mega Blaziken. Definitely a good choice against Steel types.

Mega Blaziken

7 /10

Krookodile

Steel type Pokemon are weak to Ground type Pokemon, and Krookodile is one of the best Ground type Pokemon around!

This bad boy croc even gets access to all three of Steel type Pokemon's weaknesses, making it a great choice. Immune to Electric and Psychic type moves, Krookodile is an effective choice in many scenarios.

Krookodile

It gets great moves like Fighting Low Kick, while having an amazing spread of Ground type moves like Earthquake, along with Fire moves like Fire Punch.

An easy choice for a Pokemon that can beat Steel type Pokémon!

And it has an absolutely amazing design too, being neither under nor overdesigned. Krookodile has just the right amount of ornamentation in its design, looking simple yet fierce.

8 /10

Paldean Tauros (Blaze Breed)

A Paldean regional variant form of Tauros, Paldean Tauros (Blaze Breed) is a nightmare for Steel Pokémon to battle.

This Pokemon has great Attack and great Defense stats while also having access to all three of Steel type's weaknesses.

Paldean Tauros Blaze Breed

Although its design isn't especially different from Kantonian Tauros, the design pops and shows off the strong design of the original form while adding something new. Paldean Tauros is a great Pokemon, and its Blaze Breed makes it one of the Fire types that are best at facing down Steel type Pokemon!

9 /10

Iron Hands

A Future Paradox Pokemon from Pokemon Violet, Iron Hands slaps hard. This Pokemon has seen great use in Tera raids, and it's easy to see why, since it's got a fantastic Attack stat and great Defense too.

Iron Hands

A Steel and Electric type Pokemon, Iron Hands can take advantage of all three of Steel type's weaknesses while being resistant to Steel type moves.

And it has a shiny robotic design too, looking like a futuristic Hariyama. Perfect for fans of high-tech sci-fi designs!

10 /10

Chandelure

Chandelure is a powerful dual type Pokemon with both the Fire type and the Ghost type. And its design is well and truly out there, being a funky chandelier that's actually a ghost in my opinion.

But Chandelure has a great Special Attack stat, meaning it can even take on Steel type Pokémon with high Special Defense.

Chandelure

Its Ghost type makes it immune to Normal types and Fighting moves, so it's an interesting choice in many scenarios.

But it does only get Fire type moves for dealing super effective damage to Steel type Pokemon, so it perhaps isn't quite as versatile as some other options. Still, most Steel type Pokemon are weak to Fire, so it's not so bad.
