How to Tame Wildlife in Fortnite [Ultimate Guide]

Fortnite currently has four types of wildlife that players can tame: boars, wolves, raptors, and sharks. Each of them has their own difficulties when it comes to taming these beasts, but it’s worth it for the benefits the wildlife can provide players with, whether it's help in combat or just a quick ride across the map.

  • Boars are typically subtle; they really only attack if they feel threatened, so use caution when approaching them.
  • Wolves are one of the most aggressive wildlife; taming a wolf isn't exactly easy, but it's well worth it for the help they provide you with
  • Raptors are another highly aggressive wildlife; they will attack regardless of you being a threat or not, so you will have to sneak attack them
  • Sharks, or Loot Sharks, are pretty simple to tame; they kind of just chill in the water and drop loot if you eliminate them. Though, you can tame them for help in combat too.

Finding & Taming Wildlife in Fortnite

There’s really no way to know when and where wildlife will spawn since the spawning location switches up each time. Nonetheless, since they’re wild, wildlife can usually be found near water sources or in locations where there are trees, bushes, and grass, depending on which wildlife you’re looking for.

Taming Boars

Fortnite Boar

Boars are known to roam around farming areas and locations with wood. These are a few of the most popular locations for boars to spawn:

  • Colossal Crops in the Pigpen
  • In the woods between Holly Hedges and Sweaty Sands
  • Near Retail Row and Catty Corner, in the pasture
  • Stealthy Stronghold Area
  • Near the east of Pleasant Park, in the woods

When taming boars, you could just jump right on their backs; this will automatically put you into riding mode, which basically tames them. Though, if you want a less skilled method, try this:

  1. Search areas where boars are most likely to spawn and find one.
  2. Carefully approach the boar without leaving it feeling threatened; you can lure them in with meat by placing it on the ground if you need to.
  3. Once they’re close enough, an ‘interact’ option will appear; select this to tame them.

Taming Wolves

Fortnite Wolf

Wolves are almost never spawn in the same location multiple times, so you really have to search for them. They are much more likely to be seen in areas with grass than in many other areas. Here are some of their common spawning locations:

  • Lake Canoe
  • Believer Beach
  • Stealthy Stronghold
  • Boney Burbs
  • FN Radio

When taming wolves, you could also just jump right on their backs to tame them, but that’s pretty risky considering how fast and aggressive they are. If you want a safer alternative to taming a wolf, try this:

  1. Search areas where wolves are likely to spawn until you find one; they do move in packs, so be careful when you do come across them.
  2. Subtly eliminate one of them using one of your best weapons.
  3. Without spooking the others in the pack, drop the meat from the eliminated wolf near another wolf and quickly hide.
  4. Once the wolf is focused on the meat, carefully approach it.
  5. When you get close enough, press and hold down on the interaction button to tame the wolf.

Taming Raptors

Fortnite Raptor

Raptors are another tricky wildlife to find in Fortnite. They’re likely to be found in jungle areas where players don’t pass through much; however, they can be found in a few more common areas around the map as well. You can usually find them traveling in small packs in these areas:

  • West of Misty Meadows
  • Stealthy Stronghold
  • Boney Burbs
  • Weeping Woods

Try to sneak close enough to it without being tracked. That said, a camouflage skin would be highly advantageous, and that's how I personally play it out. Once you’re close enough, jump on its back to enter riding mode. Though, be careful when doing this because it can cause a lot of damage to your character if you catch yourself in the process.

Taming Sharks

Fortnite Shark

Sharks are much easier to find since they can only be found in water sources. You can find sharks in any body of water along the map of the island. Some players have claimed to find loot sharks south of the Seven Outpost IV, Chonker’s Speedway, and the Condo Canyon; however, these are some of the most common spawn areas:

  • Rickety Rig
  • The Fortilla
  • Sweaty Sands

To tame a shark, you’ll need a fishing rod; these can usually be found anywhere near any of the loot shark spawning locations. Once you have a fishing rod, cast it into the body of water where you’ve noticed a loot shark swimming around. Wait for the shark to bite down on the bait; once this happens, then you’ll be able to either control the movement of the shark around the map, or you can jump onto its back to get a quick ride across the map.
