How Much Money Does Fortnite Make per Year [Exactly]

Fortnite has made more than $26 billion in revenue as of 2023, which equates to about $1 million each day from microtransactions. Though, since Fortnite is a highly popular game that seems to be growing more often, these numbers are very likely to increase within the next year. This just proves how successful Epic Games’ revenue model has been for them since the beginning of Fortnite.

As of November 2023, Fortnite has reached an estimate of between 400 and 500 million players with Epic Games accounts, with this number still actively growing. That's pretty impressive considering there's a few reasons why everyone hates Fortnite.

Out of that number, a roughly estimated 83 million of them play at least once each month, and about 25 million of them play Fortnite every day.

How Does Fortnite Make Their Money?

In short, Epic Games makes its money entirely off of microtransactions. Microtransactions are any purchase made through the Fortnite Battle Royale shop; this includes purchases of cosmetics like emotes, skins, gliders, and any other items that players can purchase to customize their character. Although Fortnite is an entirely free-to-play Battle Royale game, some of the best gliders and skins are not free and will require some in-game purchases.

Cosmetics aside, the other purchase that affords Epic Games revenue is when players purchase the season's Battle Pass, which will cost them 950 V-Bucks. Or $9.50. In fact, Battle Pass purchases actually make up the vast majority of Epic Games revenue, hence why Epic Games doesn’t allow players to gift Battle Passes to their friends using Fortnite's in-game currency, V-Bucks; this would not allow them to make money off the purchases.

Fortunately for Fortnite, only making money through microtransactions is a highly efficient model to bring in Fortnite revenue. They have a way of really knowing how to pull their players in by offering even the rarest Fortnite skins for low costs.

It’s actually a genius way of making money to be honest, since, once players do give the Battle Pass a try, they’re not too likely to want to go back to playing Fortnite without it. Personally, Fortnite is more enjoyable when you have the Battle Pass to level up through, unlocking cool rewards.

Furthermore, as it stands, about 77% of Fortnite players are considered to be spending players who have made a minimum of one purchase in the Fortnite shop, proving that Epic Games’ revenue model is successful.
