#1 Collect 1x Paper

Paper can be easily crafted by placing 3x Sugar Cane in one line on the crafting table. They yield 3x Paper.

Paper can also be found in some chests in structures like Shipwrecks, Strongholds, and Villagers. They have a high chance to contain 1-12x Paper.

Another mob that drops Gunpowder is Witches. They drop 0-6x on death and up to 15x with the Looting III sword.

Chests in Dungeons, Desert Temples, Woodland Mansions, and Shipwreck have a medium chance to contain 1-8x Gunpowder.

#3 Finish off crafting a Firework Rocket

When you have 1x Paper and at least 1x Gunpowder, just press E to open your inventory and put them all in the crafting grid to craft 3x Firework Rocket. You can use up to 3x Gunpowder in this crafting recipe to increase the flight duration of the Firework Rocket to three.
