How to Stop Water from Freezing in Minecraft

Place Dirt on Top of the Water

One of the easiest ways to prevent water from freezing is by placing dirt blocks on top of the water blocks, making the water block stay liquid underneath. The height of the cover will not be important, so you can easily store more water this way without a problem.

This is just not the most ideal way of keeping water blocks in cold biomes. Mainly because you cannot see the water and you have what seems like a giant mound of dirt in the middle of your village. So, keep this in mind when it comes to your aesthetic preferencesTorches, Lanterns or Glowstones

Your second option has a bit more playroom, with the ability to use any kind of light source, as long as the light level surrounding the water is 13 or higher. The light level is determined by the number of torches or lanterns you place together. The light level adjacent to the water will then allow the water to remain liquid and retain from the water freezing.

This is the most versatile way to keep your water block from freezing, and all you need is a source of light with enough light level, and you are all set!
