How To Make A Pressure Plate In Minecraft

Pressure plates detect players, mobs, or other entities when they step or placed on it. It will send a redstone signal to the blocks directly adjacent to it. Pressure plates are non-solid blocks. They act like a switch to open doors or activate redstone contraptions. Although, the signal strength depends on the type of pressure plate being used.
Types of Pressure Plates in Minecraft
There are 4 types of pressure plates in Minecraft: wooden pressure plates, stone pressure plates, and weighted pressure plates, both light and heavy.
Note: You do not even need to have a crafting table to craft pressure plates. You can use the 2 by 2 crafting grid in your inventory to craft whatever type of pressure plate you need.
How To Craft A Wooden Pressure Plate
You only need to have 2 wooden planks of any matching variant. For example, you can use the usual oak planks to craft an oak pressure plate. Remember that the color of the pressure plate will match the color of the wooden planks you are going to use. Follow these steps to craft a wooden pressure plate:
- Gather at least 1 block of any type of wood you like and turn them into planks.
- Place 2 wooden planks on the crafting table grid horizontally.
- You now have a wooden pressure plate.
A wooden pressure plate can be used to detect any entities on top of it, whether they are players, mobs, or items. It gives out the maximum redstone signal strength immediately, which is 15.
How To Craft A Stone Pressure Plate
Similarly, you need 2 regular stone blocks to craft a stone pressure plate. Keep in mind that regular stone blocks are different from cobblestone blocks and smooth stone blocks. You cannot use either cobblestone blocks or smooth stone blocks in crafting stone pressure plates. Follow the steps below to craft a stone pressure plate:
- Smelt at least 2 cobblestone blocks in a furnace. You can skip this step if you already have a Silk Touch enchanted pickaxe.
- This will turn the cobblestone blocks into regular stone blocks.
- Place 2 regular stone blocks on the crafting table grid horizontally.
- You now have a stone pressure plate.
In contrast to a wooden pressure plate, stone pressure plates can only detect players and mobs. They cannot detect items. Although, stone pressure plates also give out the maximum redstone signal immediately when players or mobs stand or walk on it.
Quick Tip: If you want to have black-colored pressure plates in your Minecraft base, you can craft a polished blackstone pressure plate using the similar crafting method. However, you need to craft polished blackstone blocks first by combining 4 blackstone blocks.
How To Craft A Light Weighted Pressure Plate
On the other hand, weighted pressure plates are crafted using ingots instead of blocks. To craft a light weighted pressure plate, you need at least 2 gold ingots. Follow these steps to craft a light weighted pressure plate:
- Obtain at least 2 gold ingots by smelting raw gold ores in a furnace.
- Place 2 gold ingots on the crafting table grid horizontally.
- You now have a light weighted pressure plate.
Similar to wooden pressure plates, light weighted pressure plates can detect all entities such as dropped items. However, the redstone signal strength output depends on how many entities are on top of the pressure plate. The more dropped items there are on the pressure plate, the higher the redstone signal strength will be.
How To Craft A Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate
Instead of gold ingots, iron ingots are used to craft a heavy weighted pressure plates. You will need at least 2 iron ingots. Follow these steps to craft a light weighted pressure plate:
- Obtain at least 2 iron ingots by smelting raw iron ores in a furnace.
- Place 2 iron ingots on the crafting table grid horizontally.
- You now have a heavy weighted pressure plate.
Heavy weighted pressure plates are also dependent on how many entities there are on top to output a redstone signal. However, the main difference of a heavy weighted pressure plate from a light weighted one is that the signal strength only increases by 1 if 10 items or entities are dropped or placed on it. Therefore, you will need a lot more entities on top of heavy weighted pressure plates to output a maximum redstone signal.
That's everything you need to know on how to make a pressure plate in Minecraft.
