Best Halo Multiplayer Matchmaking of All Time [A Nostalgic Review]

Halo Infinite has brought us a pretty amazing matchmaking system that has brought thousands of players to the Halo online multiplayer. Each matchmaking though originated from all Halo games. From custom games to online co op matchmaking, let's take a look at the best game modes for the ultimate Halo game experience.

1 /6

Halo 3

The final in the original trilogy, Halo 3 is probably top pick for any diehard fans of the Halo franchise. Halo 3 featured new guns and vehicles, along with the utilization of the Bubble shield and Grav lift. The introduction to some grounded roots of Halo's matchmaking system such as game modes Forge and Theater were also introduced in Halo 3.

1

There was also the option of co-op with friends. Making the game more friendly for those playing together on one console.

2 /6

Halo 2

Putting Xbox Live on the map, Halo 2 was the first Halo to introduce online multiplayer. Halo 2 not online introduced its own multiplayer but also set the course for the next titles in the matchmaking system of Halo. Not only this, but Halo 2 set the course for all FPS multiplayer gaming and online co op matchmaking with other games.

2

Halo 2 had a very simple matchmaking style with the original feel of the game made Halo 2 the foundation of matchmaking.

3 /6

Halo: Reach

Not only does Reach have one of the best campaigns, but Halo Reach also completely changed the game when it came to online matchmaking. Halo Reach introduced game mode Invasion, along with armor abilities that were the foundation to future abilities such as the Sprint and much more.

3

Although multiplayer was seeming to shift towards becoming like any other first shooter, Reach still brought in many stapled Halo elements that we would be without if it wasn't for this release.

4 /6

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite is definitely a top pick among the Halo titles. As the latest in the Halo games timeline, the online matchmaking for Halo Infinite has been one of the main focus' on 343 Industries ever since their first Halo game Halo 4. Halo Infinite optimized old modes to becoming a more competitive and thrilling FPS gameplay.

4

One problem so far with Halo Infinite is the lack of ability to play co-op matchmaking. Although there is an online co-op ability for the campaign mode, it does not transfer to PvP. There is still the ability of use to Discord voice and people playing through Halo LFG. Along with the ability of campaign co-op.

5 /6

Halo: Combat Evolved

Halo Combat Evolved was released on the original Xbox representative console before Online multiplayer even existed. This Halo game introduced multiplayer splitscreen allowing other players from the same console to join the group.

5

Once the Halo Master Chief Collection was released, players could finally play these old Xbox gaming modes through online co op.

6 /6

Halo 3: ODST

ODST was definitely one of the most unique when it came to campaign and online matchmaking. ODST is not about your average Spartan soldier, so the armor abilities in the matchmaking were completely different than the average Halo games.

6

Instead of the average competitive play, Bungie focused more on the cooperative play between friends. Introducing Firefight mode where players fight to fend off Covenant enemies together.
