6 Best Elements to Bring When Fighting Geo Enemies in Genshin Impact!

About Geo Element

The Geo element has been around since the start of the game, however, in all honesty, the Geo element in my opinion has been neglected by Genshin Impact developers. Nonetheless, the Geo element is a formidable element where its elemental reactions are more focused on fortification and survivability, unlike the rest of the reactions that can be made.

Azhdaha and Zhongli

Geo characters tend to be on the bulkier side and can react with most elements such as pyro, hydro, electro, and cryo in order to make an elemental shield through the Crystallize reaction. You can obtain the corresponding elemental shield by collecting the elemental shard produced between geo and any of the four previously mentioned elements.

Similarly, geo enemies are also well shielded with the geo element, and through my experience, one of the more annoying enemy typings to deal within Genshin Impact. Tough geo enemies that require extra effort and attention to deal with are:

  • Rock Shieldwall Mitachurl
  • Stonehide Lawachurl
  • Rockfond Rifthound and Rockfond Rifthound Whelps
  • Geo Hypostasis (Guyun Stone Forest)
  • Golden Wolflord
  • Primo Geovishap
  • Azhdaha

Geo

Arataki Itto

You are most definitely reading this right. Yes, Geo's best counter is itself, Geo! The term "fight fire with fire" is very true when talking about geo's weakness.

The geo elemental shield is extremely weak against geo damage, especially those that originate from elemental skills and elemental bursts. In fact, some other elements like anemo end up not depleting the shield's durability, rendering the element useless in their matchup.

At the current version, there are quite a limited amount of geo characters that we can use in teams to fight geo enemies, therefore team compositions tend to be very constricted and hard to make if you do not have the appropriate characters.

Geo playable characters that are particularly useful for geo boss mechanics and destroying geo enemies' shields are:

  • Zhongli - elemental skill and elemental burst
  • Albedo - elemental skill and elemental burst
  • Gorou - elemental skill
  • Arataki Itto - elemental skill and elemental burst (which enables geo-infused normal attacks)

If you have Zhongli (the geo archon), all geo constructs that are present on the field will also pulse periodically, dealing geo DMG to surrounding enemies. Having him in your team that is made to fight geo enemies will become extremely effective and powerful.

Pyro, Cryo, Electro, and Hydro

These four elements can react together with geo and are essentially on the same level in terms of efficiency to defeat geo enemies. The corresponding element and their elemental reactions are powerful enough to deal enough damage so fights do not take too long, while on the other hand, can still provide chip damage to geo shields.

Notable elemental reactions that involve the 4 elements mentioned here are:

  • Hydro and cryo reactions - freezing enemies can create a very easy situation for you to just start beating geo enemies to a pulp.
  • Pyro and electro reactions - overloading enemies can knock back enemies, rendering them useless and vulnerable for a moment. Extra damage if your characters have high elemental mastery.
  • Cryo and electro reactions - superconduct reactions can come in very handy particularly if you are a physical DMG lover (P.S. Superconduct is super useful with the last element that is effective against geo!)

With that said, you should be familiar with the Genshin Impact elementals guide. But if you're not, don't worry - here are my personal recommendations for Pyro, Cryo, Electro, and Hydro DPS (Damage Per Second) characters that are believed to be excellent in dealing with geo enemies (I myself use them too, but do note that they are all at the highest character level in Genshin Impact):

  • Hu Tao - a very powerful pyro DPS character, also one of the highest HP character in Genshin Impact. She excels in team comps that allow Vaporize reactions to enable her fullest potential.
  • Raiden Shogun - probably the most favored archon when she was first released. She can enable a lot of teams with her energy recharge replenishing abilities that allow teams to dish out elemental bursts off cooldown. She herself can be one of the main electro DPS characters to deal the final blow on geo enemies.
  • Kamisato Ayaka - insane main cryo DPS if coupled with the right teammates. Her multipliers shown in her talents allow her to deal massive amounts of damage within a short amount of period. Additionally, she is usually played in Freeze team compositions, essentially allowing her to deal critical damage on every hit she lands on geo enemies.
  • Yelan - an incredibly potent damage buffer while simultaneously dealing a ton of damage, Yelan is an amazing hydro sub-DPS character that does not need to be on the field to be effective. As long as you get her elemental burst going, you can enjoy her kit already. My personal first pick whenever thinking about making teams.

Physical (Claymore)

Although not exactly an element, the physical damage which usually originates mostly from claymore wielders is the most effective weapon against geo. Think of it this way - the claymore is the heaviest and largest weapon that is perfect for destroying rocks and boulders in front of you.

Another in-game example can be when you are farming for crystal chunks in the open world: what are the best weapons and worst weapons in Genshin Impact to mine these crystal ores? Yes, the answer is claymore (for weapon) and geo (for element)!

As of now, there are 2 very strong candidates for physical DPS that you can build for geo enemies. These characters are none other than Eula and Freminet, who both carry cryo visions with them. Their cryo typing makes it perfect for superconducting teams as they already fill 1 slot of element needed for enabling superconduct.

As always, whenever in doubt about dealing against enemies you are unsure of, always remember to deal elemental damage coupled with elemental reactions.

If you're wondering why I suggested that, see YouTube videos that show how to see your highest damage in Genshin Impact - it's always from an elemental reaction. On a side note, if you still do not have the characters you see in showcases, learn how to save up primogems and how to get free primogems so you can get those limited characters!
