5 Best Elements that You Must Have to Fight Against Hydro

1 /4

Dendro

Nahida Idle Genshin Impact

The Dendro element is known to shred enemies that have a hydro shield. Bring Dendro characters to deal damage to Hydro-related enemies in order to destroy their shields and defeat them faster! Some of the notable characters that you can use are:

  • Nahida - auto attacks and elemental skill
  • Baizhu - auto attacks, elemental skill and elemental burst
  • Collei - elemental skill and elemental burst

The characters mentioned above have high hit counts of Dendro elemental attacks - extremely potent in destroying hydro shields. Moreover, Dendro characters are known to be very strong for their elemental reactions, such as hyperbloom and bloom. These dendro related reactions also deal dendro damage to enemies.

Cryo

Cryo, another name for ice in Genshin Impact, is also adept in dealing with hydro enemies. Cryo elemental reactions with hydro result in the Frozen reaction, where the target is frozen solid and immobilized for a short duration. While the enemies are frozen, they cannot move or deal damage to you. Moreover, the enemies' hydro shield durability is reduced.

Some notable Cryo DPS characters that can deal with thick hydro shields are:

  • Rosaria - elemental skill and elemental burst
  • Ganyu - charged attacks, elemental skill, and elemental burst
  • Ayaka - cryo-infused auto attacks

The key to defeating hydro enemies without breaking a sweat is to reapply cryo damage to their shields to refresh the cryo-hydro elemental reactions. This way, you can deplete their shields and start dealing damage with your DPS characters that have visions from other elements.

However, using cryo characters may be a bit risky. As you fight hydro enemies, they will usually deal hydro damage to your characters, which may result in you getting frozen (from the hydro and cryo reactions) instead if you are also going up against cryo enemies concurrently. A notable mention would be to avoid using Barbara near any cryo element as she can freeze herself, leaving you vulnerable to enemy attacks.

Electro

Fischl and Oz

The electro element (electricity) is a decent matchup for fighting hydro enemies. A hydro-electro elemental reaction will result in Electro-charged, where enemies gain damage over time debuff. This results in decent, steady chip damage in hydro shield durability. This allows you to freely use your electro DPS characters, such as the following:

  • Raiden Shogun - Elemental skill and elemental burst
  • Fischl - Elemental skill
  • Lisa - Auto attack and elemental burst

An electro ability belonging to an off-field character is useful against hydro shields as you can apply both electro and another element to destroy hydro enemies' shields.

4 /4

Pyro

In reality, fire and water are polar opposites that usually cancel out one another (surprise - the best element against pyro would also be hydro!). In Genshin Impact, the hydro and pyro damage reaction is usually sought for, better known as vaporize, as usually, streamers use this very reaction to show the highest damage.

Pyro DPS characters can effortlessly defeat hydro enemies, especially if the enemies are inherently hydro. Some characters that can apply generous amounts of pyro damage are:

  • Yoimiya and Hutao - Auto attack (after using their elemental skills)
  • Yanfei - Auto attack and elemental skill
  • Xiangling - Elemental skill and elemental burst

If you use the proper corresponding elements to deal with hydro enemies, it would be a piece of cake to fight these enemies - it would be wise to learn how to save primogems to ensure you can get those limited characters mentioned above.
