Everything You Need To Know About Bats In Minecraft

Minecraft bats are one of the most useless mobs in the game. Although they're pretty cute, they can be quite annoying most of the time, as they also don't have any other purpose than being an ambient mob. Still, we're going to cover everything you need to know about bats in Minecraft, so tune in to find out more about this interesting mob!

Where do Minecraft bats spawn?

Minecraft bats spawn only under special conditions. A bat constantly spawns in groups of 8 in underground caves below the 63 layer or in the Overworld on the surface when the light level is 3 or less. They aren't exclusive to any type of biomes, just to the dark areas and depth - you'll find them everywhere in creative and survival mode.

What can you get from a Minecraft bat?

Unlike the other mobs, Minecraft bats don't drop anything when killed. They don't have any special item drops, and neither do they drop experience points. So basically, there's no need to kill them at all unless you want to get rid of them.

They're only useful if you're trying to find a cave, and you or one of the players happen to hear their squeaking - because that can eventually reveal a cave you didn't know was near you.

How do Minecraft bats act in the game?

You'll most likely see a Minecraft bat hanging upside down while exploring a cave or something else underground. They can idle only on solid blocks, and they'll run away. If the player approaches them, they'll also immediately get away. They'll automatically despawn if they go too far away from the player because they're solely an ambient mob.

They're small and fast while flying - they're not even one block tall, making them pretty difficult to kill. While flying, they constantly squeak and wander around without planning to go anywhere. Luckily enough, they can't press pressure plates like most of the mobs in the game, and they also can't destroy crops.

Can you tame Minecraft bats?

You can't tame bats in Minecraft. Unfortunately, you can't keep them as pets, like some animals, such as wolves and cats. They aren't meant to be kept as pets, so it's nearly impossible to have one as a companion.

Can you breed Minecraft bats?

Minecraft bats are currently unable to breed with one another. There aren't baby variations of the bat mob, which would be weird since they're very small compared to other mobs in the game. Also, bats don't eat anything, so it's impossible to make them fall in love with each other and make a baby bat.

How to get rid of Minecraft bats?

The best way to get rid of bats is to increase the light level of your surroundings by placing torches or other light sources. If they still manage to spawn, you can then kill them either with your hands or with a weapon if you want to make it more gruesome. They're weak mobs that can be killed within one hit.

Are Minecraft bats hostile?

Minecraft bats aren't hostile at all. A bat is a passive mob that can't hurt you in any way possible. It has 6 health points or 3 hearts, so it's not difficult to kill at all - you can do it with your bare hands if you're into that.
