Here's How to Easily Make Rocket Ships in Minecraft

What Items You Need to Make a Rocket Ship in Minecraft

Before we start building the spaceship rocket, there are a couple of things you'll need to get and know. I've tested this rocketship and it works in both Java and Bedrock editions, so you don't have to worry about that! Now here are all the required items you'll need to get to make a rocket ship in Minecraft:

You can also use a firework star to make firework rockets in different colors to celebrate the launch of the rocket ship you'll build! With all the items in your inventory, below you can see step-by-step how to build a rocket ship in Minecraft!

How to Make a Rocket Ship in Minecraft

1 /6

Place the Iron Block Layout

The first thing you'll have to do is add the iron blocks from where the rocket ship will launch. You can do this layout by standing somewhere and placing a single iron block 1 block away from yourself in the middle of each side. It's best if you see the layout in the image below.

Other blocks instead of iron ones can be used here, albeit they'll destroy the image a rocket ship should have. You can even try to craft diamond blocks and use them if you want your rocket ship to look even better!

2 /6

Add Slime Blocks Above the Iron Blocks

Now you'll have to place slime blocks directly above the iron blocks and connect them toward the middle. But don't place a slime block in the middle of the layout and leave it empty, as that's where some of the mechanics behind the rocket ship's flying will happen.

You can also craft honey blocks and use them instead of slime blocks since they have the same sticky properties. Which block you choose depends on whether you want your rocket ship to look orange or green!

3 /6

Place an Observer and Sticky Piston in the Middle

In the middle hole between the slime blocks we left previously, you'll want to place an observer. Then on top of the observer, place a sticky piston facing upward as well. With this, we're halfway done through building the rocket ship!

This observer and sticky piston is what will make the rocket ship go upward. To be exact, we'll be using the Redstone torch to activate the observer which will make the rocket fly, though there is a little bit more to do before we activate it.

4 /6

Cover the Sticky Piston With Slime Blocks

With the sticky piston set in place, you'll want to add a slime block on every side of it. Except for the top side, where you'll have to place 2 slime blocks facing upward.

Make sure you don't place any other slime blocks around the build. I've personally tested it out by trying to stick other blocks as well, but the rocket ship simply doesn't launch, so just go by the build and you should be good!

5 /6

Place an Observer and Sticky Piston Facing Downward

Now you'll have to get directly into the corners of the rocket's layout. That's because we'll have to place an observer facing downward on each side of the slime block at the top. Then add a sticky piston to each of these observers facing downward as well.

Now you can go ahead and get a firework star or two to make a colored or basic firework rocket for celebration. That's because now we'll be launching the rocket ship into space!

Put the Redstone Torch Below the Rocket Ship

We'll be launching the rocket ship with this step, but keep in mind that once you start it, there's no stopping it! To launch it, place a Redstone torch in the middle underneath the rocket ship. This should activate the observer and make the rocket fly.

You can stand directly above the middle block of the rocket ship to fly with it while you make Minecraft fireworks explode to celebrate the launch. But since there's no way of getting down from the rocket ship, a better way to make a rocket ship in Minecraft is by using mods!

How to Make a Space Rocket Ship Using Mods in Minecraft

Another way you can get rocket ships in Minecraft is by using mods and addons. For the Java edition, I can personally recommend you download and use the BeyondEarth mod. Not only does it feature rocket ships, but it also has space where you can explore multiple planets and the moon as well!

As for the Bedrock edition, you can download the SpacePE addon for older Minecraft versions which also includes other space elements like planets. So you'll be able to build rocket ships here, though you'll need to create a new world and enable the "Experimental features" first. As for newer Minecraft Bedrock Edition versions, there are space rocket ship mods in the marketplace.

And that wraps it up for how to make rockets. Minecraft is a large game with many ways you can build rockets, especially by using outside mods. While you're in the space theme, you should definitely try out the best Minecraft Star Wars servers too!
