What Is Rotten Flesh Used For In Minecraft?
Rotten flesh is used for a few different things in Minecraft. It’s mostly a consumable item, but can be traded for an emerald and can be used as part of wolf care.
While rotten flesh is found very commonly throughout the Minecraft worlds, it does have drawbacks as well as benefits, some of which may be deal-breaking.
Using Rotten Flesh to Restore Player Hunger
Eating rotten flesh restores four hunger points (shown in-game by the hunger bar on the HUD), and still works as other food does to restore health.
When eating rotten flesh, the player has a 80% chance of being inflicted by “food poisoning”- a negative hunger status effect that increases the player’s hunger for 30 seconds, showing as poison on the hunger bar.
This hunger status effect doesn’t ‘stack’, meaning if a player starts eating multiple pieces of rotten flesh at once, it won’t increase in increments of 30% (30, 60, 90 etc).
Instead, if the player does eat rotten flesh when the hunger effect timer is still counting down, the timer will be reset (to 30 seconds). Talk about a balanced diet.
Using Rotten Flesh To Speed Up Wolf Cub Maturation
Wolf cubs can be fed a piece of rotten flesh to speed up their maturation time. One piece of rotten flesh reduces the time left until they're fully grown by 10% of the remaining maturation time.
For example, if a wolf cub had 100 seconds left until they fully mature and they were fed one piece of rotten flesh, the timer would decrease to 90 seconds.
Using Rotten Flesh To Trade In Minecraft
Rottren flesh can be used to trade with villagers in Minecraft. 32 rotten flesh can be traded with novice level cleric villagers in exchange for one emerald.
How Do You Get Rotten Flesh In Minecraft?
Rotten flesh can be acquired in quite a few ways in Minecraft. Because of the large amount of hostile mobs and chest loot locations it's found in, it’s quite a common resource.
Rotten Flesh Dropped By Hostile Mobs - Mob Loot
There are many different hostile mobs that can drop rotten flesh, and all of them are in some way zombified:

How To Find Rotten Flesh By Fishing

How to Receive Rotten Flesh Gifts From Cats
Rotten Flesh can be randomly gifted to the player from a tamed cat. Each time the player goes to sleep in a bed and they have a tamed cat, there's a 70% chance the cat will give them a gift upon waking.
Of this, there's a 16.13% chance this gift will be a piece of rotten flesh. Cute.
