How to Quickly Connect Your Oculus Quest 2 To Steam

When you're trying to connect your Meta Oculus Quest 2 device to Steam on your PC, there are 2 apps you should first download:

  1. The Oculus Link app
  2. The SteamVR app

Once you download the Oculus Link app, make sure to log in with your Meta account with which you're logged into your Oculus Quest 2 device. And to play Steam games on it, you'll need the SteamVR app. Of course, you'll find this in the store on the Steam app client, but surely you have the client downloaded and logged in with your account already!

After you're done getting these apps, there are 2 ways you can connect your Oculus Quest 2 device to your PC and play Steam games: using a cable and using a wireless Air Link connection.

How to Connect Using Quest Cable Link

The best way to play Steam games on your Oculus Quest is by connecting it to your PC with a USB cable. You'll need a minimum of a USB 3.0 port and cable, though it's best recommended that you connect it with a USB C cable for better connectivity.

When you get the cable and are all set and done, here's how to connect an Oculus Quest 2 to your PC and Steam with Cable Link:

  1. Turn and put on your Oculus Quest 2 device and open Settings
  2. Select the System settings, and on the left side find the Quest Link section
  3. Open the Quest Link section and on the right make sure to toggle and turn on the option
  4. Click on "Launch Quest Link" and toggle off the "Air Link" option above
  5. Now connect the Oculus Quest 2 with a cable to your PC, and open the Oculus app
  6. Click on "Devices" on the left side and select "Add Headset"
  7. Select the Quest 2 option, click on "Continue", and choose the "Link (Cable)" option
  8. Once the pairing is complete, from the Quest Link previously, launch your PC

If by any chance you can't find the Quest Link option, it may also be hiding in the "Experimental Features" within the Settings! But that mostly applies to devices that haven't been updated in a while. Your PC may also appear in the Quest Link menu, from where you can select and pair with to play Steam games on Oculus Quest 2.

Connect Using Quest Air Link

When you want to play Steam games on Oculus Quest 2 with your PC, a cable might tangle and be outright annoying! That's why you can try out the wireless Air Link connection to get paid or free Steam games. For this to work though, you might need a good router and a more powerful gaming PC.

Having a good router will help you out because Air Link basically connects your device to your PC through an Internet network so you can play Steam games on Oculus Quest 2. So make sure both your PC and Oculus are connected to the same WiFi router network!

After you connect both of your devices to the same WiFi network, here's how to play Steam Games on Oculus Quest 2 with Air Link:

  1. Put on your Oculus Quest 2, go to Settings, and select the System section
  2. On the left side find the Quest Link section, select it, and on the right side turn it on
  3. Now go to your PC, open the Oculus app, and select the "Devices" option on the left side
  4. Click on "Add Headset", select the Quest 2 option, and click on "Continue"
  5. Select the "Air Link (Wireless)" option and go to "Continue"
  6. Put on your Quest 2 device, and from within the Quest link settings we saw above, select "Launch Quest Link"
  7. Toggle and enable "Air Link" above, wait for your PC to appear, and select it
  8. Once the pairing is finished, launch your desktop from the same menu and open SteamVR

When you open your PC from the Oculus, you should be able to open SteamVR and play Steam games on Oculus Quest 2. Then you can even try to stream Steam VR games on Discord to your friends!

But however you put it, an Air Link or cable, there's one thing you should be aware of right now. Playing Steam VR games with an Oculus device does require a more powerful PC rig.

Besides the powerful router, good USB 3.0 or Type C cable, and a great USB port we saw above, there are also some PC requirements you need to have before you play the best Steam games on your Oculus VR headset. So here are the PC requirements to play Steam games on Oculus Quest 2:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 and above
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1070 or AMD 400 series
