When players are installing the best Steam games, they'll leave the default installation path which usually is located in the C drive. After downloading lots of games from the Steam library, the drive will get full while another one like the D drive remains with free space. What you can do in this situation is move some Steam games from the C drive to the D drive and free up space!

With this, you can create Steam Library folders in different drives from where you can move games. So if you've wanted to free up some space, here's how to move Steam games to another drive:

1. Launch the Steam client on your PC
2. Click on the Steam logo at the top left corner and select Settings
3. Select the Storage menu on the left
4. Click on the current drive at the top and select the "Add Drive" option
5. Select the drive in the "Add a new Steam library folder" window
6. In the Storage menu, click the checkboxes of the installed Steam games you wish to move and select "Move" 
7. Select the drive to which you want to move a game in the dropdown menu, and click on "Move" again

This process may take some time depending on how big the Steam game files you're moving are to a different drive. If you've selected all your Steam games, then it will take a lot of time if those games' files are too big! But after a while, even the games you hide on Steam if selected will be moved to the Steam folder in the drive you chose!

Another thing to keep in mind is that once you add a new Steam Library folder in a new drive, it will appear as an install folder when you're downloading new games. Select that drive as an install folder so you won't have to move the Steam game later on!

If you've downloaded Steam DLCs for some games, you'll move that content to the new Steam folder with this method as well. So don't worry if you're downloading new DLC content for a Steam game, because those game files will be moved to the new Steam folder if you've moved the game to the other drive beforehand.

When you're adding another drive, you're essentially creating a new Library folder where you can install new games or move old ones. Depending on how you've installed Steam, you may not even need to add another Steam Library folder if the app already has the driver listed before you add it.

In some cases though, the drive won't be recognized at all and you'll have to choose it manually. Here a window will pop up where you'll have to choose the new drive, create a Steam folder in it, and select it. But don't be scared - Steam rarely doesn't detect a new PC drive!

Adding the drive and moving some free Steam games will definitely free up some space on that drive, but remember that the drive where you're moving games should also have free space. However, you shouldn't only consider moving them purely for free space.

Do Steam Games Run Better on SSD?

Some players may have lots of space on one drive and moving their entire Steam Library folders with games to another drive just doesn't make sense. That is if you're moving them to an SSD drive. That's because Steam games run faster and better on an SSD drive!

This is meant for players who are using an HDD and SSD storage in one PC at the same time. So you should move fast-paced games to another Steam Library folder in the SSD drive and keep the HDD drive for some other apps and games you don't play a lot.
