If you're trying to break the longest Discord call world record, you'll have to be in the Discord call over many nights. However, Discord will often disconnect you for inactivity so they can decrease the load on their end. But, you can bypass that with these methods below.
Call In A Server Instead Of A Private Call
If you are calling someone by making a private Discord call instead of calling in a server, you might bump into some issues while calling overnight. If the other person leaves the call for a while, you will automatically be disconnected for being alone after three minutes.
Since you might be asleep, you might get disconnected and not know about it. Therefore, I recommend calling in a server voice chat instead. The server can be private and only have you and the other person in it.
However, calling overnight in a server will only work if you apply the next step below. It’s very important.
Turn Off Inactivity Timeout Channel
This method only applies if you are calling in a Discord server as opposed to a private call. In most Discord servers, admins set up an AFK channel. These admins can set an “Inactive Timeout” duration, for example, 15 or 30 minutes.
Discord will automatically move you to the AFK channel if you have not moved your mouse in that duration. Since you may be sleeping throughout the voice calls, turning off the Inactivity Timeout is essential so you don’t get moved automatically.
Your Discord account must have admin or moderator permissions to disable the Inactivity Timeout in a Discord server. If you have permissions, follow the steps below:
Go to your Server Settings by pressing the server name on the top left.
In the Overview section, look for the “Inactive Channel” option.
Open the dropdown menu and change it to “No Inactive Channel”.
Don’t forget to press “Save Changes” to apply the new Discord settings.
Discord forces you to select an Inactive Timeout duration of a maximum of 1 hour. You can bypass this by turning off the Inactive Channel so Discord will have no channel to move you to.
Change Sleep Timeout Settings
Another obstacle to overnight Discord calls is your computer or laptop going to sleep mode, disconnecting you from the Discord call. Depending on your settings, your device can go to sleep mode after 15, 30, 60 minutes, or more.
So, we will change our sleep timeout settings and ensure your device will not go to sleep mode so you can remain on the call for however long you want. Here’s how to do it on Windows:
Open your Windows Settings, then go to the “System” section.
Next, go to the “Power & Battery” category.
On the “Screen And Sleep” setting, expand the dropdown menu.
Change all the settings to “Never”.
Now, your device will never automatically go to sleep mode, so it will be active throughout the entire night if you don’t do anything.
