In Fortnite, weapons can be upgraded at upgrade benches. By using gold and building materials, you have the flexibility to take any weapon, of any level, and upgrade them to up to legendary-level weapons.
The Fortnite map features many upgrade bench locations scattered around, ensuring that, regardless of where you are on the map, you can make a quick stop to upgrade your weapon. It's important to stay vigilant and make sure no opponents are sneaking up on you during this process. Personally, I'd take any opportunity to stop at an upgrade bench if I'm still equipped with basic weapons.
The upgrade bench locations on the map change every season, as does the number of benches available at times.
How to Use Upgrade Benches
Using upgrade benches in Fortnite is super simple. These benches can be used an unlimited number of times within a match, offering a great chance to collect resources. If you're near an upgrade bench and want to upgrade a weapon, just walk up to it.
As you approach, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to upgrade your weapon. It will display how much gold a weapon upgrade will cost and how much material you’ll need; these costs vary based on the upgrade level you're aiming for. To upgrade your weapon, follow these steps:
- Take out the weapon you’re planning to upgrade.
- Click on the ‘Interact’ button. This varies by platform: On the PlayStation, press the square button; on PC, press E; on Xbox, press X.
- A popup will then show the gold price for the upgrade. Choose the upgrade option you want, and your weapon will upgrade.
Cost of Fortnite Weapon Upgrades by Rarity Level
There are four levels of rarity to get through when upgrading weapons. The levels range from uncommon up to legendary, and each cost gold and building materials in order to reach the next upgrade level. The cost of each upgrade is below:
Current Rarity | Upgrade Rarity | Cost (Gold Bars) | Building Materials required |
Uncommon (Green) | Common (Gray) | 200 | 50 counts of brick, wood and steel |
Common (Gray) | Rare (Blue) | 300 | 150 counts of brick, wood and steel |
Rare (Blue) | Epic (Purple) | 400 | 250 counts of brick, wood and steel |
Epic (Purple) | Legendary (Orange) | 500 | 350 counts of brick, wood and steel |
Should You Upgrade Your Weapons in Fortnite?
Upgrading weapons is completely optional; personally, I recommend upgrading your weapons as soon as you can as long as you have the resources.
The upgrades will help you get better in matches, especially if you're new to Fortnite. There are a lot of great benefits that come with upgrades, such as improved accuracy, higher damage rates, and quicker reloading times.
Additionally, you can get other benefits for your weapons, like reduced recoil and a change in magazine sizes. It really just comes down to whether or not you want to upgrade your weapons and if you have enough gold and materials. If not, you can find ways to get more gold and materials pretty quickly.
