The 10 Best Assassin's Creed Games [Ranked]

1 /10

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

It's an undeniable fact. The best Assassin's Creed game of all time has to be Brotherhood. Period.

AC Brotherhood

Apart from being one of the best adventure games of all time. The reason Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was so good is because it perfectly nailed down the Assassin's Creed formula, and defined it thereonward in my opinion. The second game introduced us to the charming Ezio Auditore da Firenze, but Brotherhood made us fall in love with him.

And the story! My God, the story! if you haven't experienced the story yet, drop everything you're doing right now and go play through Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. You can thank me later. Brotherhood is the reason why Ezio is often regarded as the best Assassin's Creed protagonist ever.

2 /10

Assassin's Creed II

Brotherhood might be the best Assassin's Creed game of all time, however, Assassin's Creed II is a close second.

AC 2

The game introduced us to Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Florentine rake whose favorite pastime is getting into trouble. Much to the dismay of his family. Assassin's Creed II improved on every aspect of the previous Assassin's Creed game. The parkour felt better. The combat system was smoother. And it also introduced the pistol as a weapon, which I absolutely adored using.

However, the thing that really sets Assassin's Creed II apart from other Assassin's Creed Games is the insane attention to detail that the devs gave to Renaissance-era Florence. It's so accurate in fact that I've heard anecdotes of history teachers using the game during their lectures. And the only thing better than a great game is a great game that's also educational.

Assassin's Creed

The original Assassin's Creed. The game that started it all. One of the best games made by Ubisoft. An eternal classic.

Assassin's Creed

When the original Assassin's Creed was released, it took the gaming world by surprise and quickly became a cult classic. There had been many other stealth games that came before it, however, most of them were sorely lacking in depth. And depth, my dear readers, is something that Assassin's Creed did not lack.

Whereas the Theif games focused on, well, being a thief. And the Metal Gear games focused on weird government shenanigans. Assassin's Creed focused on the struggles between two ancient orders, the Templars and the Assassins. The story was captivating, the gameplay even more so, and the aesthetic was simply eye-watering. An incredible start to a bountiful franchise.

4 /10

Assassin's Creed Revelations

Assassin's Creed Revelations isn't the most beloved game of the Assassin's Creed franchise, however, it is to me.

AC Revelations

Admittedly, Assassin's Creed Revelations wasn't that special. Especially if you compare it to its predecessor Brotherhood. However, I still loved it to death when it came out. Ezio was not much older and wiser. Additionally, the game was set in Constantinople, rather than in Renaissance Italy. The feeling was drastically different, however, the inspiration to explore it all was still familiar.

The game introduced cool new mechanics like the Hook-Blade as well as expanding on the Den Defense minigame from the previous games. And honestly, the Den Defense minigame is probably one of the best minigames in gaming. It was for me at least. But then again, I love tower defense games, so can you really blame me for that?

5 /10

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

It's kind of funny, isn't it? One of the best pirate games of all time isn't strictly a pirate game at all, but an Assassin's Creed game.

AC Black Flag

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is probably the Assassin's Creed game that I've spent the most time with. The other Assassin's Creed games have an interesting world, however, none could match Black Flag's open world. It was a game that stepped away from the traditional AC formula, but it did so in such a way that it was still an amazing experience. Definitely earning itself a position among the best Assassin's Creed games of all time.

As an Assassin's Creed game, Black Flag is kinda mediocre. But, as a pirate game, it's exceptional in almost every regard. The first time I attacked and boarded an enemy ship successfully made me so happy that I'm pretty sure I fried my dopamine receptors then and there. Honestly, Ubisoft needs to make a remake of this, rather than the whole Skull and Bones debacle going on right now.

6 /10

Assassin's Creed Unity

Let's be honest here. Assassin's Creed Unity didn't have the best launch in gaming history. Frankly, it was a broken mess. However, looking back at it now, it's actually quite a decent Assassin's Creed game.

AC Unity

The thing that really stifled Unity was the fact that it attempted to push what hardware at the time was capable of effectively pulling off. The fact that it was released early also didn't help its cause. However, after a few patches, the game really came into itself and started looking like an Assassin's Creed title should.

Unity was set during the French Revolution, and it perfectly captured the chaos of the period. The thing that left the biggest impression on me was the parkour. Unity probably had the best parkour in the entire Assassin's Creed franchise. Fitting, since parkour was invented in France anyway. It also allowed us to explore Notre-Dame, before its untimely accident in 2019.

7 /10

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

If you're a fan of the RPG Assassin's Creed games, then Odyssey is probably the best entry in the entire franchise.

AC Odyssey

The game combined a bit of everything from previous Assassin's Creed games while still offering something fresh and exciting. I'll be honest, I didn't play it that much. However, what I did play was quite fun.

As much as I love Renaissance Italy, I have to give it to Ancient Greece. It's an absolutely breathtaking setting. Assassin's Creed Odyssey probably has the best open world to explore, even if it is a tad grindy at times.

8 /10

Assassin's Creed Origins

Assassin's Creed Origins. The game that started it all... technically.

AC Origins

Assassin's Creed Origins did something drastic that many players at the time hated. It transformed Assassin's Creed into an open-world RPG. Some liked the shift, others loathed it. I was pretty neutral about it.

Bayek's story was quite interesting, and the gameplay itself was quite fun. However, a big drawback of the game was the fact that the world felt "empty" at times. A real shame to be honest, especially if you consider how remarkable the previous games were.

9 /10

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Oh boy. Where do I even begin with Assassin's Creed Valhalla?

AC Valhalla

For starters, let me be perfectly clear. I loved Valhalla. I got a good 100+ hours out of it. That being said, I cannot turn a blind eye to its most glaring problem. I'm referring to the fact that it's built to be a typical AAA blockbuster title. It's a fun game, that's for sure. However, it's far from remarkable.

I'll admit it. It's one of the best viking games, however, it's an Assassin's Creed game in name only. It doesn't have the cultural impact as Brotherhood did, and it certainly didn't match the fun open world of Black Flag. It was a game that prioritized quantity while offering a standard amount of quality. You either liked it or you didn't. I for one found it to be as enjoyable as a warm beer.

10 /10

Assassin's Creed Mirage

Finally, we come to the latest entry in the franchise. Assassin's Creed Mirage. The game that Ubisoft promised would be a "return to the franchise's roots."

AC Mirage

Turns out, that was all a can of bologne. It was a decent game, definitely worth its price. However, it couldn't recreate the feeling that the early Assassin's Creed games had. The open world felt barren and empty. The parkour felt "magnetic," which was really strange. And the gameplay got pretty repetitive after a while.

I think that the biggest problem with Mirage was the fact that it started its life as a DLC for Valhalla, and you can really feel that while playing the game. It's a good nostalgia trip, but that's about it. Still, compared to some of the other Assassin's Creed games that didn't make the list, it's for sure one of the best Assassin's Creed games.
