Gathering The Materials Needed To Dye Leather Armor
First of all, you need to gather all the materials needed to dye leather armor. Some of these items are for the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft only. Here is the list of all the items needed to dye leather armor:
- Leather Armor (Leather Cap, Leather Tunic, Leather Pants, Leather Boots)
- Dye (Any color of your choice)
- Cauldron [Bedrock Edition]
- Bucket (with water) [Bedrock Edition]
How To Obtain Leather Armor
Obtaining Leather Armor is the most crucial step in this process. You can get a full armor set by trading for them from a Leatherworker villager. However, the full set can be expensive, costing a lot of emeralds.

If you do not want to spend your precious emeralds, you can always craft a Leather Armor set. A full set of Leather Armor takes around 24 leather to craft. Leather can be obtained from killing Cows, Mooshrooms, Horses, Mules, Donkeys, Llamas, and Rabbits.
Note: Rabbit Hide can be used to craft Leather. Combine 4 Rabbit Hides in a 2 by 2 crafting pattern to get 1 piece of Leather.
Dye Leather Armor in Minecraft: Java Edition
After gathering the materials needed, follow these steps to dye a leather armor in Minecraft: Java Edition:
- Get all your Leather Armor that you want to dye a certain color. You can obtain if from the Leatherworker villager, or you can craft it using your own leather supply.
- Once you got them all ready, get the color of dye you want and ready it in your inventory.
- Place the piece of leather armor and the dye color in the crafting table grid or in your inventory crafting grid.
- Get the resulting item in the right-hand slot. The dyed Leather Armor is now ready to be worn.
Dye Leather Armor in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition
The Leather Armor dyeing process is quite different in the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft. You will need to have a cauldron as well as a bucket filled with water.
- Get all your Leather Armor that you want to dye a certain color. You can
obtain if from the Leatherworker villager, or you can craft it using
your own leather supply. - Craft a cauldron.
- Place it down where you want it to be. It is recommended to place it where you can use it again and again if you want to dye a lot of leather armor pieces.
- Get the iron bucket filled with water and right-click on the cauldron to fill it up with water. Leaving it outside and letting rain collect on it will eventually fill the cauldron up with water.
- With the dye color of your choice in hand, right-click on the cauldron. This will add dye to the water inside the cauldron.
- Finally, select the piece of leather armor you want to dye in your hot bar. Right-click on the cauldron with dye.
- This will dye the leather armor with your color of choice. Thus, you finally have a dyed Leather Armor which is ready to be worn.
