Here's How to Grow Every Crop in Minecraft: Farming Guide

How to Grow All Normal Crops in Minecraft

Before we get into getting and growing the crops, you should get interested in farmlands which are blocks that almost every crop can be planted onto. Farmlands are created by right-clicking a dirt or grass block with a hoe. If there's a water source near farmlands, the ground will become tilled soil and the crops planted on them will grow much faster!

Minecraft How to Make Farmlands

When you're making farmlands by crafting a hoe and using it, keep in mind that mobs like pigs can walk over and ruin the crops. Now it's best to cover them using a fence so you can be the only one having access to these farmlands.

Knowing the basics of creating farmlands and making the best Minecraft farm ideas is key to growing crops. With that said, here's how to grow every normal crop in Minecraft:

How to Grow Wheat

Wheat seeds are obtained by breaking normal grass that can be found around everywhere. You must plant seeds to get Wheat on farmlands like we saw above.

How to Grow Carrots

Carrots don't have seeds and they can be directly planted on farmlands. They're best gotten from village farms and chests. Just make sure you don't harm the villagers while you're breaking your carrots!

How to Grow Potatoes

Much like previously, potatoes can be directly planted on farmlands and don't have seeds. The best way to find and get potatoes is within chest loot and village farms.

How to Grow Pumpkins and Melons

Both pumpkins and melons can be planted on farmlands, but have a trick. You need to leave an empty row between planted seeds as they grow in 2 blocks. Melon and pumpkin seeds can be obtained by placing a melon slice or pumpkin on a crafting grid.

How to Grow Cactus

Cactus is best found in deserts and should be planted on a sand block. They will grow by themselves, but cactuses must be planted with a 1-block distance between each other.

How to Grow Mushrooms

When you try to farm mushrooms, they mostly generate in dark places and the Nether. Harvest mushrooms by breaking them. They can be planted in low-light places or mycelium, podzol, and nylium blocks. The only use of mushrooms is that they can only be grown in bigger versions using bone meal!

How to Grow Glow Berries

Glow berries can be found growing in lush caves. Unlike all the previous crops, they can be planted upside-down at the bottom of almost any block.

For most of these crops, you can also use bone meal to make them grow faster. From wheat seeds to melon seeds, you can aim your bone meal, and right-click the seeds to speed up growing crops. Bone meal actually won't work on 2 crops above, and that's sugar cane and cactuses. Everything else is for the take once you craft some bone meal of course!

How to Grow All Underwater Crops in Minecraft

Not every crop has to be taken care of above ground, as there are some that can be grown underwater. And these crops are kelp and sea pickles!

You can find kelp in big abundance underwater mostly in ocean areas. Kelp can be planted on almost any ground block, though it must be underwater. If you have an ocean near your base, then there's really no use in growing your own kelp because of its availability to make and craft dried kelp!

Then we have sea pickles which are a bit more tricky because you can place them anywhere you want. But to grow them, sea pickles must be placed on coral blocks underwater. They'll grow in stacks of 4, and bone meal can be used to speed up the process.

Sea pickles can even glow a bit underwater, so you can use them as a light source while you're making the best Minecraft underwater bases! If you wish to be a farming expert, then growing these crops might prove to be a challenge.

How to Grow All Nether Crops in Minecraft

There are also crops that are limited to spawning in the Nether dimension only. When you travel to the Nether, you can get nether warts and fungus which you can grow in the normal world as well.

Nether wart can be found in Nether fortresses, and growing it will also require you to get some soul sand. That's because nether wart can only be planted on soul sand. Also, it can't be grown faster using bone meal, so you must wait some time until it fully grows up.

As for nether fungi, they're a bit more specific. There are 2 types of fungus you can find in the Nether dimension - crimson and warped fungus. They can be planted anywhere, but much like normal mushrooms, these fungi can also be grown in tall tree versions as well! Besides crafting a warped fungus on a stick, specifically, you'll want to plant crimson fungus on crimson nylium ground block, and warped fungus on warped nylium ground.

And that's pretty much all you need to know on how to grow every crop. Minecraft has a vast farming world with lots of crops, but they aren't that hard to grow and take care of. If you want to farm even more, then go with a different look and make a Minecraft gold farm!
