Top 10 Strongest Legendary Pokémon By Stats [Ranked]

1 /10

Arceus

Arceus is probably the first Pokémon people think of when it comes to the title of 'strongest Legendary Pokémon'.

Introduced in Gen IV, this Normal type Mythical Pokémon is said to have created the entire Pokémon universe, meaning the Pokémon world we know and love couldn't exist without Arceus.

Arceus

Its base stat total is an impressive 720, making it the highest base stat total for any Pokémon in a normal form, barring things like Mega Evolution or Eternamax - and discounting Zacian and Zamazenta in their debut games!

Arceus has a cool mechanic featuring special items which allow it to switch types to any of the 18 different Pokemon types, meaning it's a Legendary Pokémon with a lot of versatility, thanks to its Signature Ability Multitype.

This powerful Pokémon was worshiped as a god by the people of the ancient Sinnoh region (Hisui) and featured as the mascot of its very own game, Pokémon Legends Arceus.

Touted as the strongest Pokemon God in lore and in game, Arceus is the strongest Legendary Pokémon on this list as well!

2 /10

Eternamax Eternatus

Eternamax Eternatus is the strongest Pokemon ever to feature in game, with a whopping 1125 base stat total. Eternamax Eternatus only avoids the top spot because it achieves its insane power only temporarily during a special boss battle.

But make no mistake, Eternatus is a powerful Legendary Pokémon in its own right and deserves a spot on this list regardless.

Eternamax Eternatus

Said to be responsible for the Galar region's Darkest Day, Eternatus provides the energy for the Dynamax phenomenon featured in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

With a cool dual typing of Poison and Dragon type, Eternatus is a unique Legendary Pokémon that deserves its penultimate spot on this list!

3 /10

Zygarde (Complete Forme)

Zygarde is an odd Pokemon with three special forms - 10%, 50%, and Complete Forme. Its 50% and Complete Formes are the more powered up forms, but 10% Forme has its fans too.

Zygarde 50%

With a base stat total of 708, Complete Forme Zygarde is the second most powerful Pokemon in a normal form after Arceus.

A Dragon and Ground type Pokémon, Zygarde even got its own minigame as players had to find its pieces to create its forms!

Zygarde Complete

Perhaps the most disappointing thing about Zygarde is that it never got its own game, as many fans expected it would get.

But stat wise, Zygarde is easily one of the strongest Pokemon and definitely deserves its spot on this list.

4 /10

Zacian & Zamazenta

At their debut Zacian and Zamazenta were just as powerful Pokémon as Arceus itself, with a base stat total each of 720 in their Crowned Forms.

In their Crowned Forms, Zacian is a Steel and Fairy type Legendary Pokémon, and Zamazenta is a Fighting and Steel type Legendary Pokémon - and each gets a nice stat boost, too. Unfortunately for fans the base stat total of these powerful Pokémon was reduced going into Gen IX.

Zamazenta Crowned Shield

But don't doubt their power, because even after a nerf these two Pokemon are some of the most powerful Pokemon in the Pokémon universe. Zacian is so strong that it's been banned from some formats!

Zacian Crowned Sword

Zacian even got itself a spot on this list of the best Fairy type Pokémon!

Other Pokémon wish they were half as strong as Zacian and Zamazenta!

5 /10

Rayquaza

One of the most popular Legendary Pokémon in the Pokémon franchise, Rayquaza is also one of the most powerful Pokemon.

This Legendary Pokémon got itself a great spot on this list of the best Dragon type Pokémon too!

Rayquaza

Rayquaza is a Dragon and Flying type Pokémon with the distinction of being the only Pokémon able to Mega Evolve without an item.

Rayquaza with the Dragon type move Dragon Ascent can Mega Evolve into the powerful Pokémon, Mega Rayquaza.

Mega Rayquaza

M-Rayquaza is a real terror in battle, with a whopping base stat total of 780, a full 100 points stronger than its base form. With a super charged Attack and Special Attack M-Rayquaza slaps hard. Truly the undisputed king of the Hoenn region!

6 /10

Mewtwo

Mewtwo was once the strongest Pokémon of all, but time and new additions to the series have seen it slip behind. But Mewtwo is still a force to be reckoned with, easily one of the strongest Pokémon out there.

Mewtwo

Cloned from Mythical Pokémon Mew, Mewtwo is a humanoid cat Pokémon with a whole lot of attitude.

This Psychic type Legendary Pokémon even has two exclusive Mega Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, to boost its power even further.

Mega Mewtwo Y

One of the best Psychic type Pokémon, Mewtwo also got itself a spot on this list of the best cat Pokémon!

Mewtwo is a long time favorite of fans and it excels with special attacks in its normal or Mega Mewtwo Y forms, but in its Mega Mewtwo X form becomes a powerful physical attacker with access to Fighting type STAB!

Mega Mewtwo X

7 /10

Solgaleo & Lunala

Featuring prominently in the Generation VII games as 'Nebby', escapist extraordinaire, Solgaleo and Lunala are some of the most powerful Pokemon in the Pokémon world.

These two Legendary Pokémon hail from another dimension and are instrumental in saving the Alola region - and the Pokémon world - from Necrozma.

Solgaleo

Each of these Pokémon is extremely powerful, with a base stat total of 680, just spent in different places.

Lunala has a solid HP and Special Attack as well as great Special Defense, whereas Solgaleo has great HP and Attack and a good Defense stat.

Lunala

With signature moves, signature Abilities, and even a special Z move when holding a Z Crystal, Lunala and Solgaleo are powerful Pokémon with a lot to love.

8 /10

Ho-Oh

The first Legendary Pokémon introduced in the anime, Ho-Oh had to wait until Generation II to get its name, but boy was it worth the wait! A Fire and Flying type Pokémon, Ho-Oh is part of a duo of Legendary Birds with Lugia, and was the mascot Pokémon for Pokémon Gold.

Ho-Oh is probably most famous for creating the three Legendary Beasts, Suicune, Entei, and Raikou, from three dead Pokémon.

Ho-Oh

The three Legendary Beasts themselves are some of the most popular Pokémon in the franchise, and Ho-Oh gets the credit!

Ho-Oh is one of the most powerful Pokémon and has a great space in the hearts of many a Pokémon fan. Which is why it got a spot on this list of the best bird Pokémon too!

9 /10

Giratina

The mascot Pokémon for Pokémon Platinum, Giratina is a fearsome Ghost and Dragon type Pokémon which forms part of a trio with Dialga and Palkia. Banished to the Distortion World for its violence and trying to defeat Arceus, Giratina has the inherent ability to control antimatter.

Giratina Altered

Giratina has access to two forms, Altered Forme and Origin Forme, with Altered Forme being a slightly more defensive form than Origin Forme. This single Pokemon caused a whole lot of bother for its trio master, Arceus.

Giratina Origin

But that's part of its charm for Pokémon fans! Tied for the title of strongest Ghost type Pokémon, this powerful Legendary Pokémon absolutely deserves a spot on this list!

10 /10

Xerneas & Yveltal

The first Fairy type Legendary Pokémon, Xerneas can apparently grant eternal life. Its counterpart, Yveltal, does just the opposite - Yveltal drains life instead! These are two Powerful Pokémon with a strong position in Pokémon world lore.

Xerneas

With joint base stat totals of 680, Xerneas and Yveltal beat other Pokémon to a spot on this list through their strong position in Kalos region lore and by being the first Legendary Pokémon after the switch to full 3D.
