The 10 Pokemon Best Against Rock Type Pokemon [Ranked]

1 /10

Paldean Tauros (Aqua Breed)

One of the original 151 Pokemon, Tauros was given not one but three Paldean forms in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. All three variants of Paldean Tauros are Fighting type Pokémon, but the one which really excels at taking on Rock type Pokémon has to be the Aqua Breed.

A Fighting and Water type Pokémon, Paldean Tauros (Aqua Breed) is resistant to Rock type attacks while getting STAB for two of the Rock type Pokémon weaknesses.

But Aqua Breed's utility doesn't end there, as it gets access to moves in all five types that Rock type is weak against. Although its base stat total isn't the highest, this really doesn't matter, as Paldean Tauros (all forms) have their stats allocated exactly where it matters most - Speed, Attack, and Defense.

All this and a fresh new look!

This makes Paldean Tauros (Aqua Breed) the best counter to Rock type Pokémon.

Urshifu Rapid Strike Style

One of the best bear Pokemon, Urshifu is a Legendary Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor DLC. With two variants Urshifu is a great choice in many situations, but for taking on Rock type Pokémon, its Rapid Strike Style is best.

With a secondary Water type, Rapid Strike Style Urshifu gets Fighting, Grass, Water, and Steel type moves to use against Rock types, making it a super effective choice!

This martial artist bear is a powerful physical attacker and is a perfect choice for smashing some rocks! It even has an awesome Gigantamax form too!

Lucario can hit defensive Rock types with super effective damage in all five weaknesses with physical or special attacks depending on the build, meaning it has a whole lot of utility.

Whether it's using Flash Cannon or Metal Claw, Brick Break or Aura Sphere, Lucario packs a punch. And looks good doing it! It also has a super cool Mega Evolution into Mega Lucario, where it gets a great new design to go with its power up!

Swampert

The final evolution of totally adorable Water type starter Pokemon Mudkip, Swampert is a Water and Ground type Pokemon with a whole lot to love.

Sightly more suited to being a physical attacker, Swampert does have the stats to use special attacks as well. It has a flexible movepool and is only really missing Grass type moves, but with the options it has, it doesn't need them!

Swampert

Easily able to use physical or special attacks like Earthquake or Earth Power, Swampert has options for Water, Ground, Steel, and Fighting type attacks to use on Rock type Pokémon.

With great availability and an immediately recognizable design, Swampert is a fantastic choice. It even has a fantastic Mega Evolution into the brutish and fearsome Mega Swampert!

Great Tusk

A Past Paradox Pokemon from Pokemon Scarlet, Great Tusk is a powerful physical attacker witha access to fantastic Ground, Steel, and Fighting type moves to absolutely wreck any Rock type Pokémon it encounters.

Great Tusk

A ferocious monster straight out of prehistory, Great Tusk has a winning design to go with its monstrous Attack and Defense stats.

Great Tusk is a Pokemon that looks every bit as strong as it actually is, its design as cool as it is thematic.

7 /10

Chesnaught

The most forgotten member of Generation VI's starter trio, Chesnaught is a Grass and Fighting type Pokemon with a surprisingly diverse movepool.

Based on a medieval European knight, Chesnaught is a strong physical attacker with a great Defense stat. Looking like a cross between a hedgehog and an armadillo, Chesnaught has a unique design with lots to love.

Not as popular as Greninja or Delphox, Chesnaught is still an awesome Pokemon and is better by far than its counterparts at dealing with Rock Pokémon.

Chesnaught

With access to some insanely powerful attacks like Close Combat, Wood Hammer, and Iron Head, Chesnaught slaps hard. It even has good access to moves of other Pokemon types for excellent type coverage, making it a lot more useful than its popularity with the fanbase suggests!

8 /10

Kartana

A powerful Ultra Beast from another dimension, Kartana is a Grass and Steel type Pokemon with a ridiculously high Attack stat of 181 and access to some great Grass, Steel, and Fighting type attacks.

Despite weighing in at only 0.2lbs/0.1kg, Kartana slaps hard. This pint-sized Pokemon is a terror in battle, wielding powerful physical attacks like Leaf Blade and Smart Strike to shatter the opposition with super effective attacks.

Kartana

With its good Speed and great Defense Rock types had better watch out when Kartana is around! And with nine resistances and one immunity, Kartana is great against multiple types, not just Rock type!

Not present in Scarlet and Violet, Kartana does at least have decent availability in other Pokémon games, making it a great choice against many Rock Pokémon.

9 /10

Ludicolo

With access to Grass, Water, Fighting, and even a Ground type move, Ludicolo is a ridiculous duck Pokemon with an awesome toolkit for chipping away at Rock type Pokémon!

Able to hit four of the Rock type Pokémon weaknesses, Ludicolo is a good choice.

Ludicolo

Its somewhat lackluster attacking stats are more than made up for by its great movepool, advantageous double typing, and access to a useful Ability.

Using powerful moves like Leaf Storm, Energy Ball, and Surf, Ludicolo is a good choice. It even has excellent recovery options in Fighting type Drain Punch or Grass type Giga Drain for super effective healing!

Definitely one of the quirkiest Pokemon to feature in the Pokémon games!

10 /10

Quaquaval

A fabulous dancing duck Pokemon themed around capoeira, Quaquaval, has two types that are fantastic for taking on Rock types.

As a Water and Fighting type Pokémon Quaquaval takes only half damage from Rock type attacks, while getting access to a bunch of great Water and Fighting type moves for dealing double damage to Rock type opponents such as Aqua Step and Close Combat.

Quaquaval

Aqua Step is great because it raises Quaquaval's Speed after a successful hit, meaning it can sweep traditionally slow Rock types with ease!
