How to Easily Add a Custom Game to the Steam Library

How to Add Non-Steam Games to Steam Library

You'll always be allowed to add non-Steam games directly into the library of your Steam account. With this, you'll be able to turn on and play the custom game from the library through the Steam app like any other Steam game!

Here I'll be using League of Legends as an example to add a non-Steam game. So here's how to add a custom non-Steam game to the Steam library:

  1. Open up the Steam client
  2. On the top left corner, click on the "Games" option
  3. Select the "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library", and a window will appear that will load up all the games and apps on your device
  4. Click and select the non-Steam game you wish to add to your library
  5. If the game doesn't appear by any chance, click on "Browse..." and search for the games' launcher or ".exe" file
  6. Click on "Add Selected Programs" to add the selected non-Steam game in the client's library

How to Add Custom Non-Steam Games to Steam Library

Just so you know, Steam won't track how much time you've played the game. So whether your appear offline on Steam or not or not, other people won't be able to see if you're playing the game and the time played won't be tracked directly on your profile.

Setting aside the public profile though, your Steam friends will be able to see that you're playing the non-Steam games from the friends list. But if you hide the visibility of the non-Steam games or set yourself to appear offline, then your friends won't be able to see that you're playing any game through the friends list, let alone custom games added to the Steam library!

If you wish to play non-Steam games on a Steam deck though, this process stays the same. All you'll have to do is switch to Desktop mode on the deck, add non-Steam games, and then leave the Desktop mode. You can stay in this mode if you love it though, nobody's going to stop you from leaving it!

How to Change the Banner and Name on Non-Steam Games

Chances are, the non-Steam game will look very ugly in the library without a banner, and in some cases, missing a logo! Well, if you want to launch games you added to the library and make them look fashionable, there's an option to change the non-Steam games' background and logo within the library.

To add a custom logo, select the custom game again in the Steam library, click on the gear icon on the right side, and select "Properties". You can even change the name of the non-Steam game here, but you'll want to click on the logo for now. So a window will pop up for you to locate the logo image you want to use for the non-Steam game, where you can even choose your Steam profile picture!

As for changing the banner, you'll want to select the non-Steam game within the library, right-click the empty background and click on "Set Custom Background". This will open a window where you'll have to locate and select the image you wish to use as a background on the non-Steam games you've added within the Steam library. You can also change the custom games' logo from the right-click menu.

How to Change Background and Logo to Non-Steam Games

And that's everything you need to know on how to add non-Steam games and custom titles to your Steam library. Even if you hide it, you can still see hidden games on Steam. Nevertheless, it's much better to use Steam and add your custom games there rather than Epic Games who haven't added this option for the time being!
