How to Easily Take Screenshots on Steam [3 Ways]

How to Take Screenshots of Games on Steam

When it comes down to how to take a Steam screenshot, the client has a special key bind for it. To make Steam screenshots, all you have to do is press the F12 key while you're playing a game! In the bottom right corner, a notification will pop up saying "Screenshot taken" to tell you that the Steam screenshot has been successfully taken.

But to take game screenshots with the help of Steam, there's a requirement: you must have the Steam overlay enabled. By default it's enabled, but if by any chance you've disabled the Steam in-game overlay, you can quickly enable it in the "In-game" section of the Steam client settings so you can press F12 to start taking Steam screenshots in your favorite games!

You can find Steam screenshots that you've made directly on your PC. But it's easier to locate Steam screenshots directly from the Steam app by pressing on the "View" tab above and selecting "Screenshots" in the dropdown menu. That will open Steam's Screenshot Uploader where you can even share your taken pictures with friends! The Steam screenshot folder that's on your PC can be accessed from within this client tab as well.

How to Change Steam Screenshot F12 Default Button Keybind

So we saw that the default Steam screenshot button is F12. But if you don't like it, there's a way to change the Steam screenshot shortcut keys to anyone you want! Here's how to change the Steam screenshots keybinding:

  1. Open up the Steam app
  2. Click the Steam logo on the top left corner and select "Settings"
  3. Select the "In-game" section on the left in the Steam settings window
  4. On the right of the "Screenshot shortcut key(s)" option, click the current key bind
  5. Type in the key you want and it should change instantly, like "F11" for example

You can also make the button to capture screenshots bigger with the help of the Shift, Alt, and Ctrl keys. For example, in the settings for changing the keybinding, you can press Shift+F12 in the empty field where you'll have to hold Shift and then press F12 to take Steam screenshots!

How to Make Steam Screenshots With Alternate Apps

If you want to take Steam screenshots but not with the help of the Steam platform, there are other apps that can help you take pictures of your games. One such app I'd recommend is Flameshot. By pressing the "PrtSc" key on your keyboard, you can select any part of the game you want to screenshot and even draw over it using this app!

It's also easier to manage screenshots using other apps like this one since most of them will give you the freedom to choose and save any screenshot wherever you want while you're playing the best Steam games! As we saw above, taking Steam screenshots with the client app's help will only lead the images to the main Steam screenshot folder.

How to Make Screenshots on Steam With Windows Snipping Tool

Windows PCs also have a way to take screenshots easily while you're in-game, and that's with the Windows Snipping Tool. By pressing the default Windows Key+Shift+S on your keyboard, you'll be able to select any section of your screen to take an image of! The screenshot folder for these images is the Windows default one (C:\Users\<YOUR_PC_USERNAME>\OneDrive\Pictures\Screenshots).
