The Most Broken Guns In Call Of Duty History

From the original Call of Duty in 2003 to Cold War And Modern Warfare in more recent times, Call of Duty has become one of the largest gaming franchises in history.

Beloved by millions, every new release brings new features and events, most famously the Warzone game mode with Modern Warfare in 2019. Check out our articles on Warzone match length, if bots are in the game, and even how to make money playing for more Warzone content.

But battle royale is not the only thing to come with a new instalment. Almost every Call of Duty game from the Black Ops series to any Modern Warfare entry has its overpowered weapons. Here is our list for some of the most overpowered weapons in COD history.

1 /7

725 | Modern Warfare (2019)

The Modern Warfare staple of overpowered guns, the 725 shotgun stands out amongst other possible candidates as easily one of the most overpowered weapons on the battlefield.

For many months, seeing the 725 in the hands of the enemy meant instant death at both close and even medium range.

Even with just two bullets in a clip, the 725 is essentially a one hit kill weapon, even today after many nerfs and balancing changes. The best gun for close combat in Modern Warfare, at its most overpowered it was the 725's ridiculous range and insane hip fire speed that meant it was almost unbeatable.

With a high fire rate, high damage output, and speedy reload to offset its small clip size, enemies would tremble at the sight of the 725. This of course, mostly applied to Modern Warfare's multiplayer modes, as Warzone found more long range weapons such as the Grau to be overpowered.

Arguably the strongest shotgun in COD history, the 725 remains a close quarters masterclass of a weapon.

Auger DMR | Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018)

Introduced as part of Black Ops 4's unique new weapon category of tactical rifles, the DMR had its fair share of time as one of the most overpowered weapons in the game.

Since it unlocked relatively quickly, most players got their hands on this killing machine very quickly, and it wasn't long before every kill in the lobby was thanks to the Auger.

Available both in multiplayer and Black Ops 4's new Blackout battle royale (COD's first attempt at Modern Warfare's Warzone), the Auger was a semi-automatic sniper rifle.

With the high damage that you would expect from a sniper, the Auger DMR also brought an insanely high rate of fire, and a close quarter combat capacity that really shouldn't come with a sniper. So easily every noob could use it, and so good every professional did use it, the Auger DMR is one of the most overpowered weapons Call of Duty has seen in a long time.

3 /7

Mosin-Nagant | Call of Duty 2 (2005)

A throwback to before Modern Warfare, Black Ops, or many other of the franchise staples, the Mosin-Nagant once ruled the battlefield.

Existing at a time long before DLCs and regular updates after game release, the Mosin-Nagant, a bolt action sniper rifle, had essentially unlimited range.

A low rate of fire, small clip, and decent recoil simply didn't matter for this weapon, as from close range to across the map it gave out a close to one-shot level of damage. Though it may well have been forgotten by all but the most diehard of Call of Duty veterans, the Mosin-Nagant is without a doubt one of the most overpowered guns in Call of Duty history.

4 /7

OSA | Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (2016)

Easily one of the most overpowered weapons in all of COD history, the OSA from Call of Duty Infinite Warfare dominated both casual and competitive gameplay like no other gun ever has, or perhaps ever will.

Out of all the Call of Duty games, the OSA holds the rare achievement of being banned from competitive gameplay and tournaments, due to it being the most overpowered weapon ever created.

With a rate of fire faster than assault rifles, snake shot weapons, most shotguns, and pretty much any other weapon, the OSA only gets more terrifying with each feature.

A massive magazine size, very high damage for an SMG, and an overkill built-in grenade launcher, Infinity Ward definitely created one of the most overpowered weapons not just in Infinite Warfare, but in all of Call of duty.

Granted, it's widely regarded as having one of the worst iron sights in living memory, but that didn't stop it from dominating the Infinite Warfare multiplayer scene.

5 /7

Akimbo Model 1887 | Modern Warfare 2 (2009)

The infamous noob tubes, the deadly Akimbo Model 1887 of Modern Warfare 2 revealed the insanity of the akimbo attachment.

The ability to dual wield shotguns seems ridiculous even as an idea, and it was brutal in game.

After equipping the akimbo perk, players could duel wield the Model 1887 shotgun to create the akimbo model 1887 nightmare. We've discussed the insanely broken gun of the 725 - now imagine that on steroids, and then doubled.

Sniper rifle like range, stopping power that essentially meant a one hit kill was guaranteed, high accuracy even at hip fire, and a rapid reload pre patch, these guns essentially made every player a one man army, and are clearly a contender for the most broken gun in the Call of Duty series history.

6 /7

Famas | Black Ops (2010)

Originally a two or three round burst weapon in previous titles, the FAMAS was updated for COD Black Ops to become a fully automatic rifle.

Partially an amazing weapon, and partially benefitting from the lack of any other strong weapons in Black Ops, the FAMAS was truly in a league of its own.

Although maybe not the most overpowered weapon compared to other title's entries, the FAMAS was by far one of the most overpowered weapons compared to other guns in the game.

With a solid amount of ammo, easy to control recoil, and an astonishingly fast fire rate, the FAMAS dominated Call of Duty Black Ops for almost its entire existence, marking its place as arguably the most overpowered weapons in Call of Duty history.

7 /7

MP40 | Call of Duty: World at War (2008)

Even fourteen years later the MP40 is seared into the minds of any veteran COD player as one of the most overpowered COD weapons in the series' history.

Few weapons have wreaked havoc quite like the MP40. Unlocked in COD: World at War at level 10 in multiplayer, the MP40 has often been called the most broken weapon in Call of Duty history.

With reasonable accuracy, noob-level handling and an insane damage output, this weapon shreds enemies at both long and short range, impressive for an SMG.

The real issue is that the MP40 was never patched, causing chaos and annoying players for the entire duration of World at War. Its large magazine and easy to use iron sights only further solidified it as the go-to weapon for any professional or noob, earning its title for many as the most overpowered weapon in COD history.

And that's our list! A franchise all about overpowered killstreaks, weapons, and epic scale war, Call of Duty certainly has a lot of guns that almost made it onto the list. Here's a couple of honourable mentions that also dominated their respective titles:

  • MSMC - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  • Snake Shot Akimbo .357: COD Warzone
  • Bal-27 – Advanced Warfare
  • 205 Brecci – Black Ops III
  • Kar98k - WW2

Now you know which guns to avoid on the battlefield, and more importantly which to use on your enemies, hop into a game of Black Ops Cold War or Modern Warfare and enjoy the game knowing you have the advantage of the best gun available!
