Any Fortnite player would be lying if they said they don’t want the first Fortnite skin in their Fortnite Battle Royale locker. The prestige of owning one of the first Fortnite skins is something that can’t be matched with any other skin. Let’s dive into some of the first Fortnite Battle Royale skins, who knows, maybe you already have one of the first Fortnite Battle Royale skins in your locker!
What Was the First Skin in the Fortnite Item Shop?
The first time Epic Games sold skins in the Fortnite Item Shop was on October 26, 2017. In the first Fortnite Item Shop there were two featured skins, one skin in the daily shop, and two season skins.
There was no one first skin in Fortnite Battle Royale. Instead, there are five that were released simultaneously.
Skull Trooper
Skull Trooper was one of the first two featured items in the Fortnite Item Shop, released in Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1. Since the release of Skull Trooper Fortnite players still have a soft spot for this OG Fortnite Battle Royale skin.
If you like the scary halloween aesthetic of Skull Trooper, you can find similar skins to Skull Trooper in The Scariest Fortnite Skins.
Ghoul Trooper
Standing alongside Skull Trooper is the iconic Ghoul Trooper Fortnite skin. Like Skull Trooper, some OG Fortnite players still regard Ghoul Trooper as one of the best Fortnite Battle Royale skins.thickness
It's also worth noting that by just having this skin, your Fortnite account's overall value increases by a lot, and maybe one day, it will cost more than a car. For real.
Renegade
Renegade was the first ever daily rotation skin in the Fortnite Item Shop. Renegade was sold for 800 V Bucks. Renegade has continued to make appearances in the Fortnite Item Shop along with Star Wars’ Darth Vader in Fortnite Chapter 2 Seasons, and even into Fortnite Chapter 3 Seasons.
Renegade has stood the test of time. Fortnite players still run Renegade despite skins like John Wick, Royale Bomber, Recon Expert, and Red Knight being in the game.
Renegade Raider
Renegade Raider was one of the first two Fortnite Season skins. Players had to climb the ranks like the Battle Pass, then spend V Bucks to unlock Renegade Raider in Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1. The expenditure of V Bucks sets old Battle Pass skins apart from newer Battle Pass skins in Fortnite Battle Royale.
The unlock system for Season skins was much different than later Battle Passes, like the Fortnite Season 5 Battle Pass, which worked closer to today's Battle Passes, minus the Battle Stars system in Chapter 3 Battle Passes. The unique unlock system made Renegade Raider among the Rarest Fortnite Skins!
Aerial Assault Trooper
Aerial Assault Trooper is also one of the rarest skins, like Renegade Raider. Aerial Assault Trooper has not made a return in Fortnite Chapters past Fortnite Chapter 1.
The rarity & OGness of Aerial Assault Trooper means some players are willing to pay enormous amounts of money for a secondary sale of Aerial Assault Trooper, rivaling Honor Guard. Check out The Most Expensive Fortnite Skins for more on Aerial Assault Trooper and Honor Guard.

What Was the First Legendary Fortnite Skin?
There are two skins to look at for the first Legendary Fortnite skin. There was the first ever Legendary Fortnite Battle Royale skin, and the first Legendary skin in the Fortnite Item Shop. Since these first two Legendary skins have been released loads more popular Legendary skins have popped up, like John Wick.
Black Knight
Next up, something sweaty. Black Knight was the first ever Legendary Fortnite skin. However, Black Knight was a Fortnite Season 2 Battle Pass skin, which was unlocked at Battle Pass Tier 70. Black Knights high Battle Pass tier means even for OG Fortnite Battle Royale players, Black Knight was not most players' first Legendary skin.
Black Knight’s Battle Pass release set a slew of more knight Fortnite skins. A couple examples are Red Knight and Spider Knight. Check out more similar skins at The Best Fortnite Knight Skins, and if you are looking for more superhero-ish vibes, check out the best DC-exclusive skins ever released.
Crackshot
Crackshot was the first Legendary skin to be released for sale by Epic Games in the Fortnite Item Shop. Crackshot takes a unique perspective on the traditional Christmas nutcracker.
It’s tempting to lump Crackshot in with The Best Fortnite Halloween Skins. However, given Crackshot’s December 2017 release date, Epic Games clearly intended Crackshot to be a Fortnite Christmas Skin.
What Was the First Icon Series Skin?
Epic Games released their first Icon Series skin in January 2019. Since January 2019 loads more Icon Series skins have found their way into the game. Check out some of these skins in Fortnite Skins in Real Life.
Marshmello
Musical artist Marshmello was the first ever Icon Series skin added to Fortnite Battle Royale. Marshmello was released in Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 7.
Marshmello’s black and white color scheme has become just as iconic as the skin itself. Check out the Best Black and White Fortnite Skins for similar designs to the Icon Series Marshmello skin.
As you can see, the answer to what is the first Fortnite skin isn’t so cut and dry. Especially since five Fortnite skins were released at once!
