The 10 Best American Games to Chug Beers To

1 /10

Grand Theft Auto (The Entire Series)

It's impossible to single out a particular GTA game as being "The Most American," as the entire series is a satire on America itself. So, let's talk about the entire series instead.

GTA

From its inception in the 90s, the GTA series has been a focus point of controversy... And some of the best AAA minigames, but let's leave that aside for a moment. Each installment satirizes American culture in one way or another, with the most tongue-in-cheek examples being the in-game radio stations.

That being said. If you want a game to mess around in and play with your friends, then there's probably no better game than GTA V. The sheer chaos that you get to create in online lobbies is quite literally sublime. Just beware that it has a bit of a racism problem. Shocking. I know.

Broforce

This game screams "American!" Hell, It's probably the most American game in existence.

Broforce

Broforce is a charming indie game where the main character, or, should I say, main characters; are parodies of the many American action movie stars of the 80s and 90s. The story is barely there, but it's undeniably charming.

Your team is an "under-funded but overpowered" paramilitary organization sent in to stomp out an evil that's brewing in the far corners of the world. From the moment you land on the first island to the final mission, this game is an utter blast. Especially if you love 80s movie references as much as I do.

3 /10

The Oregon Trail (1971)

This isn't a game as much as it's a torture simulation. Still, it's iconic.

The Oregon Trail

One can only imagine what kind of hardships the pilgrims had to go through on the Oregon Trail. But one thing's for certain, they sure as hell had a better time on the real-life trail than gamers in the 70s did playing The Oregon Trail.

Calling The Oregon Trail notoriously difficult would be an understatement. I'm almost a 100% certain that the game was created to punish us for our sins in a past life. There's no other explanation. Ironically, I'd consider it one of the best survival games of all time... If I could get past the first few minutes that is!

4 /10

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

If you've never played Blood Dragon before, you are seriously missing out.

Blood Dragon

I consider Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon to be the Little Prince of gaming. It's a game that you have to re-download and experience all over again every few years. Honestly. This game is as American as apple pie... If America was a dystopian futuristic hellscape right out of the 80s that is.

It's a wild ride from start to finish, and that's exactly the kind of ride I enjoy. Seriously. Blood Dragon is a game that cannot be explained with words. It has comically stereotypical bad guys. Laser dinosaurs. And an arsenal of over-the-top weapons. Plus, it's one of the funniest games of all time, bar none.

America's Army: Proving Grounds

Not many people know this, but America's actual army sponsored the creation of its own video game series.

America's Army: Proving Grounds

The modelers and the 3D artists must have made a fortune because of this game because the writers were paid peanuts. Stories are unimportant where we're going kinds. America's Army is more of a recruitment ploy than it is a game.

But hey, as far as American games are concerned, this one's near the top of the list. It's probably the most patriotic game that you can play as an American. Fighting baddies all across the world. Spreading liberty and the democratic ideals of the good old USA. That's what the game's all about... And the occasional war crimes.

6 /10

War of Rights

Enough about modern America, let's dial back the clock a bit and go to the formation of the USA.

War of Rights

No, I'm not talking about the War of Independence, I'm talking about the War of Liberty, the American Civil War. War of Rights in my opinion is one of the top 3 best military games on the market right now. If you want to fully experience the game, I advise you to join one of the regiments.

Once you've joined a regiment, that's where the real fun begins. The game is unique in that it features up to 300 players in a single match. Sadly, that isn't an everyday sight. However, during events, it truly is a sight to behold. It's a game that nurtures brotherhood and a deep sense of belonging. The original American values.

7 /10

Assassin's Creed 3

It doesn't get any more patriotic than Assassin's Creed 3.

AC 3

I mean, what other game lets you take on missions from the Founding Fathers themselves? None, I tell ya! When the game was originally released, critic's opinions were nuanced. But, looking back at it, it's probably one of the best Assassin's Creed games of all time. We just didn't know it then.

The title steered AC in a new direction, one that was less "burdened" than its predecessor. Gone were the Templars, now you had to fight the British instead. Over the course of the game, you got to experience many iconic battles of the American Revolution. Bunker Hill being just one of them. And boy, was it something the first time I played it.

8 /10

Freedom Fighters (2003)

Freedom Fighter is one of those hidden gems that have so much to offer, yet hardly anyone remembers.

Freedom Fighters

The game is basically Red Dawn the video game. Your character is a resistance fighter in the battle of New York, whose main task is to organize a resistance movement to fight off the Reds. Your nation is gone and your supplies are dwindling, but the spirit of our country is alive and well.

Will you win and take your country back, or will you succumb to the Red Menace? God, it's so exciting. The game is a great example of why the 2000s were generally considered one of the best eras for gaming. We really don't get games like this anymore.

9 /10

Red Dead Redemption 2

Yeehaw, cowboy!

Red Dead Redemption 2

You can't have a list of the most American games without mentioning one of the best games of all time. Red Dead Redemption 2 needs no introduction. It's one of the best adventure games of all time, and a masterclass in every single aspect.

Everything from the sound design to the animation, to the rich story and captivating characters, to even the details on the American flags. Meticulously crafted to perfection. It portrays American history like no other game does. A quality that undeniably makes it one of the most American games ever.

10 /10

Duke Nukem 3D

A game to rival the best Doom games. Which, at one point, it even did.

Duke Nukem 3D

Duke Nukem 3D plops you smack dab in the middle of an alien invasion with one goal in mind - Kicking alien ass and chewing bubblegum. Thankfully, you have an assortment of overpowered weapons to send the aliens packing for outer space.

Duke is funny but in a very particular way. It's a humor that was hilarious in the 90s but passes off as cliche and edgy nowadays. Still, it's a great game. Maybe one of the best games of all time. One thing's for certain though, it's definitely worth a try.
