How to Craft Bombs and How to Throw Them in Project Zomboid

In Project Zomboid, Molotov Cocktails, Smoke Bombs, Aerosol Grenades, and Noise Maker throwables make your job a lot easier and can really take you from the edge of death.

This is why it is so important to know the answers to questions such as what these items do and how to craft them. Because with these throwable items you can fight off huge hordes and even redirect them to another location without killing any of them with your friends in Project Zomboid.

How to Throw Molotov Cocktails in Project Zomboid

Molotov Cocktail is the best weapon in Project Zomboid we can say. It does not cause any direct damage instead it spreads fire around the point of impact within four tiles. Once thrown, the fire will spread to adjacent tiles and ignite the zombies or players walking through.

To craft one you need to go into the crafting menu under the general tab you'll find two options.

Option one:

  • Full Gas Can
  • Empty Bottle
  • Scraps of Cloth

Option two:

  • Bourbon Bottle
  • Scraps of Cloth

Note with option one the bottles only seem to work with Wine and Bourbon Bottles. Once you got all the ingredients hit the craft button.

1

  1. Take the Molotov as a primary weapon.
  2. Equip a Lighter in the secondary slot. (Matches will not work).
  3. And throw it where the cursor is.

Also, note that while Lighters are equipped in the secondary slot their throwing animation takes about one and a half seconds to finish.

How to Craft Other Useful Bombs in Project Zomboid

There are five throwables in the game at the moment you can craft. One of the best occupations in Project Zomboid is engineering, which allows you to craft some bombs without reading a magazine.

How to Craft Smoke Bombs in Project Zomboid

The Smoke Bomb is crafted with:

  • Cold Pack
  • 2 Newspapers
  • 1 Ripped Sheet

Smoke grenades block the zombies' vision and can give you the opportunity to escape from large zombie hordes and cover your tracks.

2

Keep in mind that sometimes smoke grenades can be unreliable, they don't block the zombies' view and zombies can still follow you. So smoke grenades are generally not a very good option.

How to Craft Noise Makers in Project Zomboid

The Noise Maker is crafted with:

  • Amplifier
  • x7 Electric Scraps

Noise Maker makes small noises that attract zombies within the range of 17 tiles. You can throw it or move around with it. With enough practice, you will be able to split and disorganize zombies with Noise Makers.

3

This way it will be easier for you to take them out in smaller groups. Noise Maker is great for sneaking around town and moving hordes where you want them to be.
Because that's the primary use for it. The other three throwables are lethal meaning that they do damage to zombies, objects, and players.

How to Craft Fire Bombs in Project Zomboid

These throwables or should I say bombs can only be crafted with the Engineer occupation or after learning them through magazines. These are the Fire Bomb, Aerosol Bomb, and Pipe Bomb.

Fire Bomb is crafted with:

  • Empty Water Bottle
  • Gas Can
  • Ripped Sheets

The bomb itself doesn't deal any initial damage but it's like a Molotov Cocktail on steroids. It will start a lot more fire than a normal Molotov and will definitely completely destroy the zombie horde or building you're trying to burn down. Also, you don't have to use a glass bottle to craft this but a regular plastic water bottle.

All of these bombs can be connected to remote control or timer.

How to Craft Aerosol Bombs in Project Zomboid

The Aerosol Bomb is crafted with:

  • Hairspray
  • Aluminum
  • Box of Sparkles

It deals 70 explosive damage and has a range of 9x9 tiles. It starts a few fires and the explosion damages nearby objects, zombies, and players. Be careful not to ruin your own fantastic base location in Project Zomboid. It will inflict two wounds, one burn, and one scratch on a player.

How to Craft Pipe Bombs in Project Zomboid

The Pipe Bomb is crafted with:

  • Metal Pipe
  • x3 Electronic Scraps
  • x2 Gunpowders
  • Twine

Deals 90 explosive damage and has a range of 15x15 tiles. If a player is caught in the explosion they will suffer at least 2 wounds, but usually 3 or 4 wounds.

Both Aerosol and Pipe Bomb deal significantly more damage to players when set with a timer or remote control.

5

Pipe Bomb and Aerosol Bomb also have explosion noise which attracts zombies. The pipe Bomb blast is bigger and stronger than Aerosol Bombs so the noise is stronger as well.

Be careful not to get infected in Project Zomboid by accidentally attracting too many zombies.
