How long is an average game in League of Legends?

So if you are wondering if you can play one more game before your family lunch is ready or before going to bed, this might help you decide!

In short, one game can last anywhere from five minutes up to an hour and a half, but that rarely happens.

In reality, the average League of Legends player will tell you that the game lasts for about 30 minutes, and even though that is usually true, it can get a lot more complicated. It all depends on a playstyle, champions included, skill difference between the teams, and a lot more!

What is the average game time in LoL

One of the first things we have to consider when we talk about average game time is the game mode we are playing.

If we talk about Summoner’s Rift, games usually last 30 to 40 minutes on average.

We also have to mention ARAM matches on Howling Abyss, a single lane map.

On Howling Abyss, the average game time is about 15 to 20 minutes but that can vary a lot depending on what champions you get in a champion select.

  • Summoner’s Rift: 30-40 Minutes
  • ARAM matches on Howling Abyss: 15-20 Minutes
  • Teamfight Tactics: 35 Minutes

Making it almost impossible to know how long will one game of ARAM last, varying between 5 minutes up to 30-40 minutes in some cases.

There is also a new game released by Riot Games, called Teamfight Tactics, which has an average game time of about 35 minutes.

In the mobile version of this game, Wild Rift, Riot Games tried to make game times shorter, making them last for about 15 minutes on average! And if you like playing new modes in this game, check our list of the best One for All champions.

How long does the Champion select screen ?

When we talk about average game time in this game, the time you spend in champion select should also be taken into consideration. First of all, the champion select phase can last up to 7 minutes if every player uses every second available to him.

Then you have to consider that game time can depend a lot on champions you pick during champion select, which is even more important in the Wild Rift. For example, if you pick a strong early game composition, chances are that you will finish that game in about 20 minutes if you play it correctly.

Champion select has a lot of influence on games played on Howling Abyss too, because of the fact that the champions you play are randomly assigned to players.

Does the rank have an impact on the game time?

There is research that shows that game time is going down as the ranks of players go up. That can be explained by understanding that players in higher ranks know a lot more about the game itself, and therefore they understand how to close out games in the fastest way possible.

  • Iron – 29.46 minutes
  • Bronze – 29.41 minutes
  • Silver – 29.26 minutes
  • Gold – 28.27 minutes
  • Platinum – 28.09 minutes
  • Diamond – 26.57 minutes
  • Master – 26.09 minutes
  • Grandmaster – 26.16 minutes
  • Challenger – 25.43 minutes

These game times also include games that are surrendered early, so you should take that into consideration too.

How long are Esports Games in League of Legends

In both League of Legends and Wild Rift, professional teams seem to always find a way to either find the fastest way to end games or just have a brawl around objectives and make games run for more than an hour.

In the esports competitions held by Riot Games, such as North America’s LCS or World Championship, for example, players are a lot more coordinated and can end the game in the fastest way possible, if given the opportunity by their opponents.
