Best Karthus Skins | LoL
As one of the oldest League of Legends champions, and one whose design is as classical fantasy as they come, Karthus is a champion who has been ever-present in both the game and lore. For oppressiveness in the early days of League of Legends, and his current off off-meta potential, we bring you a list of his best skins.
The Phantom Karthus skin is the oldest skin this League of Legends champion possesses. It doesn't mean that its design is bad by any stretch of the imagination, but just its 12 years of age is enough to land it on our list of best Karthus skins.
The Phantom Karthus skin was released on January 13, 2010. This is the only League of Legends skin priced at 460 RP. However, even with such a low price, Phantom Karthus has been placed in the Legacy vault, alongside Fnatic Karthus, and cannot be purchased.
As stated, Phantom Karthus is a skin that has gone through quite a few eras of League of Legends. Because of that, its age is quite apparent.
However, the skin’s in-game model and splash art remind you of the Witch King from the Lord of the Rings, and there is a certain charm in such simplicity of inspiration. After all, the WIthc King is the big bad evil sorcerer. One Phantom Karthus can look up to.
Grim Reaper Karthus
Viego may be the Ruined King, and the source of The Shadow Isles’ undead nature. However, Karthus is the Grim Reaper, the true leader of The Shadow Isles and unbound souls follow only his dirge.
The Grim Reaper Karthus skin was added to League of Legends on September 26, 2010. Though this skin is only a few months younger than the Phantom Karthus skin, however, it can still be bought in League of Legends for a price of 975 RP.
The Grim reaper Karthus skin, as the name suggests, embodies the classical imagery of the Grim Reaper. Because of that, Karthus no longer wields a staff, but a scythe. On his skeletal waist, a copy of the Necronomicon is strapped, in reference to H.P. Lovecraft.
The Grim Reaper Karthus skin makes Karthus a force of nature, one that can do an impressive amount of damage if it’s so inclined. As such, Karthus is not a lich with this skin, and the Lightsbane Karthus skin is not its predecessor.
With the Infernal Karthus skin it would appear that this League of Legends champion has surpassed the mortal realm, and become an entity of infernal hellfire.
The Infernal Karthus skin was added to the game on July 16, 2020. With a cost of 1350 RP, this skin updates the base champion with new animations, sounds and particle effects for his abilities.
Infernal is a series of alternate universe skins in League of Legends. It’s set in a setting where the Ashen Lord Aurelion Sol has been summoned and transformed the world into a land of ashes, cinders and fire. Predictably, Infernal Karthus has joined those bent on the world’s destruction.
Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Karthus
The Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Karthus is a bit of a mouthful, however, there is a reason for that. This League of Legends skin is released as the Pentakill albums are, and it’s the third iteration of the Pentakill skin line, the band, and the name of the most recent album. It is also the skin that plummeted Karthus’ win rate, due to inspiring so many new players to pick up the champion.
The Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Karthus skin was added to the game, and the wider League of Legends universe, as well as multiple other forms of media, on September 09, 2021. It is the newest skin in Karthus’ collection, with a price of 1350 RP, and the best one to date.
After the Rise of the Sentinels event, as well as a trend of pop music and catchy tunes, the Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Karthus skin, along with the album and the rest of the band is exactly what the game needed.
With this skin, Karthus becomes a frontman of a metal band and has a human visage. Though the Pentakill music cannot be classified fully under one metal genre, it is unfortunate that none of it is death metal, with Karthus the Deathsinger being the frontman.
With his design, Karthus is the champion that truly embodies the inevitability of death. How many times have you left a particularly tough fight in-game, only to see the channeling of Karthus’ ultimate? There is nothing to do at that moment than just sit back, and wait for your death. That feeling is exactly what this champion is all about.
