Champion shards are fragments of champions that you can get in League of Legends. With these shards, you may permanently unlock a character, try them for seven days, or disenchant them to get more Blue Essence. To make the first option happen, you will have to pay a certain amount of Blue Essence; the second option doesn’t have a Blue Essence cost.
However, the shard will expire after seven days. Finally, when disenchanting a champion shard, it will only give you 20% of the original price of that champion in Blue Essence. Gathering champion shards is a valuable way to Unlock as Many Characters as Possible Fast. Here we’ll show you the best ways to get them.
How to Get Champion Shards?
Riot Games have made sure there are several ways of obtaining these shards in League of Legends, which would break down into these:
Through Hextech Chests
These little boxes are great to test your luck. You can get great rewards that range from the rarest and exclusive items to the simplest ones, like champion shards. In addition, we have an in-depth guide on How to Get Hextech Chests for Free, which you can check for you to get a bunch of them in your hands (or account).
If you plan to open many of these chests, you may as well know what main items they drop and their chances. These are:
- 50% Skin Shard
- 25% Champion Shard
- 11.5% Ward Skin Shard + 150 Orange Essence
- 10% Emote Permanent
- 3.5% Summoner Icon Shard + 150 Orange Essence
Through Champion Capsules
Another good way of getting a lot of champion shards is through champion capsules. There are two types of champion capsules, the normal ones and the glorious ones. Both types of capsules are obtainable by leveling up your account.
To be more specific, when you hit level 30, you gain your first Glorious Capsule; after that level, every new one will grant you a Normal Capsule excepting at other milestones.
With these, you can get several champion shards and some Blue Essence. Something helpful about them is that if you get a repeated champion, you can just disenchant that shard to get a bit more Blue Essence. With this, you can save up to permanently unlock another champion shard you may have around in your inventory.
Through Honor Capsules and Orbs
The honor system was introduced to the game in late 2012, during patch V7.13 At the end of every match, you and your team have the option to give honor to each other, players can go through different honor levels after accumulating enough of it.
The levels go from 1 to 5, and it resets every new season. If your level was above 2, it renews to that same one in the next season. If it was below, it resets to 1.
Honor Capsules and Orbs are obtained at different stages; from level 3 and above, you get a new capsule and an orb when hitting a “checkpoint” in that same level. In addition, you can get Champion Shards, Blue Essence, Key fragments, and more from them. Through the honor system, you can also earn the key pieces mentioned before so you can open the Hextech Chests you get.
When it comes to the rewards of this new system, we find the Honor Capsules and Orbs. This is part of Riot Games’ effort to create a more “friendly” environment during plays. You play at the best of your abilities to get your teammates honor, and you’re rewarded eventually for it.
Through Prime Gaming Subscription
Amazon Prime Gaming and Riot Games partnered to offer rewards to those players who buy a subscription to Amazon’s service, and it’s pretty beneficial for those who also play other games from Riot such as LoL: Wild Rift or VALORANT.
Players have monthly rewards available for the PC version of League of Legends to grant them some valuable champion shards. To be precise, you get five of them, some RP, Orange Essence, and more, which you can find out in our guide on How to Connect your Account to Prime Gaming.
Those who don’t like spending money on video games can still get characters for their collections. However, because there is always a new champion coming out, it’s understandable when getting that new champ doesn’t happen right off the bat.
Oftentimes, it would be necessary to spend some Blue Essence to get that champion at the right moment it is released in the game. However, if you’re lucky enough, it will only take you a few attempts opening champion capsules or other means of obtaining champion shards, for that new character to appear in your screen.
