The Best Tadpole Pokemon [EVERY Tadpole Pokemon ranked!]

1 /9

Poliwrath

The first fully-evolved tadpole Pokemon, Poliwrath was for a long time the only dual type Water and Fighting Pokemon in the entire Pokemon franchise too.

Those are some big boots - or gloves - to fill!

Poliwrath

But fortunately, Poliwrath fills them. A strong physical attacker, Poliwrath lives up to its name.

With its transparent skin showing off its intestines and its clenched fists, Poliwrath tadpole Pokemon with attitude. Evolving from fellow tadpole Pokemon Poliwhirl when exposed to a Water Stone item, Poliwrath is an interesting combination of quirky and cool.

Poliwrath also featured on this list of the best frog Pokemon!

With appearances in the manga and in the anime, Poliwrath is a big, bad tadpole Pokemon and it definitely deserves the top spot. I mean, would you want to fight it for it?

2 /9

Palpitoad

The evolved form of Tympole, Palpitoad is an adorable little tadpole Pokemon with squishy bumps on its head - almost like warts, but cute!

With its goofy smile and stubby little feet, Palpitoad has a winning design the marries Tympole's cutesy look with that of a slightly older frog.

Palpitoad

Palpitoad has an interesting dual type of Water and Ground, giving it an immunity to Electric type moves and a double weakness to Grass type moves!

Fans of type combinations may also enjoy this list of the best type combinations!

This little amphibian has an Ability, Hydration, which heals its status problems in the rain! It can also get the Swift Swim Ability which boosts its Speed in rain, too!

With its cool and useful dual type, its evolutionary potential, and its punny name based around palpitation and toads, Palpitoad takes the second spot in this listing of the best tadpole Pokemon!

3 /9

Seismitoad

Okay, okay - Seismitoad is a toad, not a tadpole. But it does evolve from a bonafide Tadpole Pokemon, so it counts, right?

Seismitoad has a lot of power. With its cool dual typing, its access to Ability Poison Touch, and interesting lore, Seismitoad simply had to feature on this list of the best tadpole Pokemon.

Seismitoad

But since it's technically a toad, it couldn't take the top spot, and even takes a spot beneath its younger form, Palpitoad!

4 /9

Bellibolt

Although it's technically a frog Pokemon, and did feature on this list of the best frog Pokemon, Bellibolt does still kind of look like a tadpole. Just without the tail.

So it's got a place on this list as well!

Bellibolt

A pure Electric type Pokemon, Bellibolt evolves from Tadbulb and carries through some of the main design features from its younger state.

With a smiling false face and a belly that looks like a vinyl record, Bellibolt is full of interesting design choices.

5 /9

Poliwhirl

This Water type Pokemon evolves from Poliwag. Officially categorized by the Pokedex as a Tadpole Pokemon, Poliwhirl is a bit cuter and a little more happy go lucky than Poliwrath.

Showing off the transparent skin which its evolutionary line is famous for, Poliwhirl also has a pair of arms.

Poliwhirl

Poliwhirl has two potential evolutions - this Water type Pokemon can evolve when shown a Water Stone, or when traded while holding a King's Rock - turning it into fellow Tadpole Pokemon Poliwrath, or toad Pokemon, Politoed.

Poliwhirl beats out some of the others on this list by having better stats, a timeless and simplistic design, and an evolutionary line that's pretty cool too.

6 /9

Tadbulb

The newest tadpole Pokemon, Tadbulb was introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and evolves into electric frog Pokemon Bellibolt! Unlike many of the tadpole Pokemon on this list, Tadbulb doesn't live in the water.

Instead, Tadbulb floats in the air thanks to its powers of electromagnetism, although it does tend to live near the water.

Tadbulb

This curious little fellow is called the EleTadpole Pokémon in its Pokedex entry, fitting as it evolves into the EleFrog Pokémon, Bellibolt!

7 /9

Tympole

This adorable little tadpole Pokemon was once featured as a Raid Boss in Pokémon Go! So for anyone thinking Tympole weak, well, at least in that one scenario... think again!

This Raid Boss Tympole was even able to be a shiny Pokémon, so it was a pretty nifty little guy. A nice fifteen-minutes-of-fame for an often overlooked Pokemon!

Tympole

Sharing its designation as Tadpole Pokémon with Poliwag and its blue brethren, Tympole has a sweet little face with bumps that look like headphones.

A pure Water type Pokemon, Tympole evolves into Water and Ground type Pokémon Seismitoad. Fans of Water types might enjoy this list of the best Water type Pokemon!

Seismitoad attacks using sound waves to cause vibrations strong enough to cause earthquakes, which means Tympole has a whole lot of power packed into a nifty little package!

8 /9

Poliwag

Cute little poliwag is the OG tadpole Pokemon. This little guy and its evolutionary line really shows off the life cycle of the frog in all its glory!

Poliwag can grow up into fearsome Poliwrath or into cute Politoed depending on its trainer's preferences.

Poliwag

Poliwag appeared in the Pokémon anime as one of Ash Ketchum's companions, Misty's, Pokémon, along with many other minor appearances.

Poliwag is the first tadpole Pokémon to be featured in the games, so for that reason it avoids the bottom spot. That, and it's super adorable and fun.

9 /9

Tynamo

Tynamo is a little eel-like Pokemon whose design was also, apparently, based on the tadpole. It has the look of a tadpole Pokemon, anyway!

An Electric type Pokémon, Tynamo evolves into the seriously strong Eelektross. Tynamo lives in the water, but its electricity isn't strong enough to do much on its own so it forms schools and swims in a group.

Tynamo

Unavailable in many of the games, Tynamo did make some major appearances in the anime, most notably as one of Electric type Gym Leader Elesa's Pokémon.

But fans of Tynamo and its would be trainers can finally rejoice, as after an absence it's been reintroduced to the Pokémon world in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!

Trainers looking to train their very own Tynamo can find in some of Paldea's seas, or even in Tera raids as a Raid Boss!
