Valorant is a pretty new game, so when it comes to what devices it's available on, Riot Games has limited the options. For example, Valorant's not available on Macs for macOS, even though there are workarounds. The same goes for the Operating System that Chromebooks use: ChromeOS.

Luckily, there are workarounds to install Valorant and play it optimized. So here we'll see how to play on Chromebook Valorant!

How to Play Valorant on Chromebook

First of all, we have to tell you that although you can try to play Valorant on Chromebook, it may ruin your experience. That's because Chromebooks generally have really low specifications that can support Valorant. So you'll basically be getting really low FPS.

Another thing worth mentioning is that you may not even be able to play Valorant on Chromebook at all because of the Riot Vanguard anti-cheat system. See, the anti-cheat Valorant uses is only made for Windows PCs. Though you could try to install third-party apps that support Windows apps and try to run Valorant on them.

Install WINE on Linux Chromebook

As we saw, Chromebooks have the ChromeOS operating system which is a Linux-based OS. Because of this, you can play Valorant on Chromebook by getting an app that runs other Windows apps like WINE.

WINE only works on Chromebooks that have Intel or AMD processors, so make sure you have one of those before proceeding! Although WINE supports lots of Windows apps, in some cases it may not work for Valorant. So with your own precaution proceed below with installing WINE:

  1. Go to your Chromebook settings and get into the Developers section under the Advanced Settings
  2. Click on the "Turn on" buttonin the Linux development environment section and proceed with the necessary steps to get Linux installed
  3. Open your Apps section, search for Terminal, and open the Linux Terminal app
  4. Copy and paste all the commands below in order:
-"sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386", press Enter
    -"wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-bui...", press Enter
-"sudo apt-key add winehq.key", press Enter
-"echo "deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-bui... bullseye main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/wine_chrome_os_made_simple.list", press Enter
    -"sudo apt update", press Enter
-"sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable winbind", press Enter and when asked at the bottom of the Terminal for confirmation, press Enter
-"winecfg", press Enter and click on Install for all options
-"sudo apt install nemo", press Enter, and when asked at the bottom of the Terminal for confirmation, press Enter

Install Valorant on Chromebook With WINE

You can now even try playing games by getting other digital game distributors like Steam since WINE does provide Windows Steam and Linux support. This may help you get into gaming through other games that use fewer resources on your device. But you're here for another reason, so here's how you can start installing Valorant on a Chromebook with WINE:

  1. Go to the official Riot Games website for Valorant
  2. Log in with your Riot Games account if necessary
  3. Download Valorant
  4. In your File Manager, move the Valorant installation to the Linux files
  5. Rename the file to "ValorantInstall"

Even if you've installed Valorant by now and are prepared to get your hands on the best Vandal skins, you may be wondering where to open the game from. That's where the last line of code above comes in. You'll want to open up the Apps menu and locate the Linux folder containing "Linux apps".

In the Linux folder, open up the "Files" app. Here, you'll want to head into the "wine" folder, and then into Program Files. You'll find the "Riot Games" folder around here, from which you'll have to:

  • Locate the Valorant game file and open it up manually, or
  • Find the "RiotClientServices" in the "Riot Client" folder and open up the game through their client

Once you find the client, right-click it and select "Open With - Wine Windows Program Loader". Then try to run Valorant and see if the process went smoothly.

And that's it for how you can install and play Valorant on a Chromebook. Even if this process didn't work for you, don't worry as Chromebooks weren't made for gaming. This may work on select Chromebook devices that have the power to even start the game to play Valorant since it requires resources. Though if the game did open up and is running smoothly, make sure you see the best crosshairs that will guarantee you defeat the enemies!
