Best German Tanks In World Of Tanks [Ranked]

The German army historically made some of the most famous tanks. In the game, you can play anything from the tier I Leichttraktor to the hefty tier X Maus, and everything in-between. Wehrmacht vehicles usually feature a small-caliber, but very accurate gun, however, their armor, while decent, is usually worse than that of Russian tanks. Later Bundeswehr vehicles tend to be more versatile while having less armor and being fast, especially light tanks. Let's take look at the best German vehicles tier by tier.

1 /8

Tier X- Leopard 1

The Leopard I is an excellent and probably one of the best German medium tanks available in World of Tanks. It marks the end of its tank line and of the German tech tree. With an excellent view range to outsee all of your enemies, a powerful 10.5cm Bordkannone L7A3 gun, a good rate of fire and accuracy, and decent mobility, it can snipe, scout, flank, or support. The main downside is thin armor and low hit points, but relying on the mobility of the Leopard will diminish its flaws. It is recommended primarily for sniping due to its great accuracy but if needed, it can take on other roles pretty well.

Tier IX- Jagdtiger

The Jagdtiger is a german tier IX tank destroyer on the basis of the Tiger II heavy tank, and it is massive. It has the second highest HP of all tank destroyers in the game, and its gun doesn't dissappoint- with an excellent DPM and with decent accuracy. It also features a good view range and gun depression is acceptable. Surprisingly, it is pretty maneuverable for its size. While the frontal armor is very thick, there are some weak points- mainly the lower plate, upper glacis, and the ammo rack. The camouflage rating is also poor.

Tier VIII- Tiger II

Also known as the Königstiger, this heavy tank features one of the most accurate guns in the game, as well as an extremely powerful one when upgraded to the 10.5 cm KwsPz.K. L/68. It is also has thick armor to bounce enemy shells and a good gun depression value of -8 degrees. However, it suffers from poor side armor and overall, it is a very heavy vehicle with a high profile. If you're playing as a higher-tier vehicle, you will be capable of leading the attack; in matches where your tank is among lower tiers, try to fulfill a supporting role.

Tier VII: Tiger I

Another one of the German cats, the Tiger I has a great rate of fire and features good accuracy on its stock 7.5 cm gun. If you are even more DPM-hungry than that, you can always upgrade to the 8.8 cm Kw.K. 43 L/71, though you will have a slower aiming time. Some of the downsides of this heavy tank are the frequently failing transmission, flat hull armor, and slow turret traverse times. It is, like a lot of other German tanks, an excellent sniper, so that's the role it's recommended for. Love heavies? Check out the best heavy tanks in World of Tanks.

Tier VI: VK 36.01 (H)

A prototype heavy tank that leads to the Tiger I, it has a very high amount of hit points, at 1,100. It can deal a lot of damage per minute for its tier, and it also features a decent view range and a good radio. However, expect poor acceleration, and an overall weak armor. Try upgrading this vehicle for its best performance. It is most powerful when used as a support vehicle and for skirmishes, however, it can take on a more active role in top-tier battles.

Tier V: Pz. Sfl. IVc

The Pz. Sfl. IVc is another prototype vehicle that never made it into mass production- but it is no less interesting in the game. With excellent firepower, you will be mowing down enemy tanks. It is also a decently mobile vehicle that is very accurate and great at sniping. Don't expect good survivability: this vehicle is basically a cardboard box, big and poorly armored, waiting to be shot down if exposed. So play it well-covered. One more interesting feature of this tank destroyer is the extremely high gun elevation, at 85 degrees!

Tier IV: StuG III Ausf. B

The StuG III Ausf. B is a tank destroyer with good acceleration and a powerful 7.5cm howitzer as its stock gun. It boasts a good camouflage value and a low profile, as well as decent armor for its tier. The view range is also admirable at 310m. Sadly, it's not high on HP, and gun depression could be better. As for the tactics, it's similar to other StuGs, it is best to engage the enemy from afar taking advantage of your good mobility.

Tier III: Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. A

This medium German tank has the best HP out of all low-tier German tanks (tier III and below). Surprisingly for a German vehicle, the accuracy is not great, with a dispersion of 0.46, but it has a high DPM, great speed and agility for a medium tank, and a high amount of alpha damage. Some of the drawbacks besides the accuracy include its poor armor, slow reload times, and subpar penetration. The panzer IV excels on urban maps and is good for flanking while taking cover behind a wall.
