Best UK Tanks In World Of Tanks [Ranked]

We all know the Valentine, the Churchill, and the Centurion. These are just some of the many great features of the British tank lines playable in World of Tanks. British vehicles during WW2 were by doctrine divided into infantry and cruiser tanks, where infantry tanks would be heavily armored and slow, whereas cavalry tanks were fast but with lighter armor. Designs nearing the end of the British tech tree were more balanced and universal (so-called universal tank); they were predecessors of main battle tanks. Let's rank British tanks tier by tier!

1 /8

Tier X- Super Conqueror

A powerful 120mm L1A1 gun with great accuracy and penetration, an outstanding 2,400 HP, excellent gun depression, and thick turret armor all define the deadliness of the Super Conqueror heavy tank. It also features 400 m of view range, enabling you to outsee your enemy.

1

Some of the drawbacks include a slow speed, weak spots on the hull armor, and a low ammo capacity. Its role is as a versatile heavy tank; it can be a sniper or a support tank, but beware of thin rear hull armor in close combat.

2 /8

Tier IX- Tortoise

The Tortoise tank destroyer is surely one of the toughest vehicles in the game- extremely thick armor, a crazy 3,000 HP, and a huge health pool. Like many other British vehicles, it has a good dispersion value.

2

However, the impenetrability of the armor comes at a cost- the top speed of the Tortoise is a mere 20km/h. The alpha damage and penetration are not impressive either. It should be played as an assault tank destroyer, and it will be able to take many shots before it fails. Love playing TDs? You'll also love our list of the best tank destroyers in WoT!

3 /8

Tier VIII- Centurion Mk. I

Although it's classified as a medium tank in World of Tanks, the Centurion Mk. I can be called a universal tank, and it was also the first British vehicle to feature armor sloping It has great penetration on the 20-pounder, admirable gun depression, and the mantlet is not a weak point.

3

However, it has a large profile, low camouflage values, and weak hull armor. It is best used in long-range engagements and on terrain with hills thanks to its -10 degrees of gun depression.

4 /8

Tier VII- Crusader 5.5-in SP

The Crusader 5.5-in SP self-propelled gun has a good amount of DPM and its low silhouette and good maneuverability make it that much more dangerous on the battlefield. At first sight, its top speed might seem like an oddity, and that is because it has a higher backward than forward speed, because the gun is facing backward.

4

The Crusader 5.5-in SP plays well from a bigger distance from the enemy, where its low survivability becomes less of a problem. If you like playing SPGs, you should check out our list of the best SPGs in WoT!

5 /8

Tier VI- Sherman Firefly

Marking the end of its British medium tank line, the Sherman Firefly medium tank has excellent penetration, and the top 17-pounder gun is a great choice for a good rate of fire while maintaining accuracy.

5

One of the biggest weaknesses is the armor or the lack of it, and a very low top speed of 36 km/h. The Sherman Firefly is great as a sniper medium tank; hide behind a building or another terrain feature and put the gun to good use as it's the strongest asset of this tank.

6 /8

Tier V- Sherman III

Similar to its American counterpart, the Sherman III is a very enjoyable medium tank. It is quick, has good gun depression, and has 1,736 DPM. It features a 76mm M1A1 gun with good statistics, except for accuracy. None of the available guns are super accurate, and the tank has a high profile, making concealment difficult.

6

The Sherman III is suitable for playing hull-down because of its gun depression, and for flanking. Big fan of medium tanks? How about checking out our list of the best medium tanks in WoT!

7 /8

Tier IV- Cruiser Mk. IV

This light British tank has an outstanding gun depression of -15 degrees, a good power/load ratio, and it boasts a 40mm autocannon with decent accuracy. It is an upgrade from the Cruiser Mk. III light tank.

7

Both light tanks share poor hull traverse speed, but the Cruiser Mk. III has tougher armor. The Cruiser is suitable for flanking and burst-firing with the autocannon, and, as expected, it performs well on sloped terrain because of its gun depression.

8 /8

Tier III- Valentine

The Valentine was historically a prime example of an infantry tank, even though the game categorizes it as a light tank. It has the best armor out of all non-premium vehicles in tier III, and all three guns that it features have good damage and penetration.

8

However, it suffers from a low speed, bad armor sloping, and a low HP. It is a pocket heavy tank, and with its small profile and good armor, it will prove a valuable addition to your team.
