Tryndamere is the best starting champion, when you want to master playing in the top lane, due to his safe kit, and lane bullying. So, here are the best Tryndamere build, runes, spells, items League of Legends can offer him, as well as his greatest counters and synergies.
Best Tryndamere Build
Tryndamere is a lane bully, who wins early-game fights due to his high base crit, and sustain.

Best Tryndamere Runes
To beat your opponents into submission, the best plan is to play as aggressively as possible, with the rune set from the Precision Tree, giving you the edge you need to procc your critical strike chance.
Best Rune Path | Precision
![]() | Resolve
![]() |
Best Keystone | Lethal Tempo
![]() | |
Best Slot 1 (Rune) | Triumph
![]() | Second Wind
![]() |
Best Slot 2 (Rune) | Legend: Alacrity
![]() | Unflinching
![]() |
Best Slot 3 (Rune) | Last Stand
![]() |
To manage against champions that can poke him in lane, Second Wind is a perfect tool, along with his Q, for some sustain, while Unflinching allows the Barbarian King to spin to win far more easily.
Best Tryndamere Rune Shards
To ensure you proc critical strike chance as quickly as possible, it's best to attack as much as possible, with bonus attack speed.
Best Shards | Effect |
Offense
![]() | +10 Attack Speed |
Flex
![]() | +9 Adaptive Force |
Defense
![]() | +6 Armor |
Since you'll be playing against physical damage champions in the top lane, mostly, your best bet is Armor. Magic Resist is extremely situational, and Armor is the better choice for most games.
Best Tryndamere Spells
When it comes to Summoner Spells, there are only a few champions who are managing League of Legends trials, without using Flash, such as Shaco. Nowadays, flash is even used on Tryndamere, as opposed to the past, showing just how strong of a spell it is.

Flash | ![]() |
Ghost | ![]() |
For running down enemies, in lane or team fights, or running away when split pushing deep into enemy territory, the second best ability on Tryndamere is Ghost. In some metas, Ghost is unavoidable, and it's Flash that can be exchanged for things such as Ignite. Unfortunately, the current meta is not one of those.

Best Tryndamere Abilities Order
The first ability to level, out of Tryndamere's abilities, is his E - Spinning Slash. It's the main engage tool Tryndamere has, and the best way to carry games with this champion, as he is spin to win after all. It's, however, the second ability to be maxed.
After that, the next ability in his skill order is his Q - Bloodlust. This ability needs to be maxed as soon as possible, and the third ability point goes into his Bloodlust, before leveling his W, as this is Tryndamere's bread and butter for sustain in lane, and overall bully status.

Finally, besides Tryndamere's ultimate, we have his W -Mocking Shout. It's the last ability to be leveled, as it doesn't offer as much as his other abilities.
And, as always, Tryndamere's ultimate, R - Undying Rage, must be leveled at levels 6, 11, and 16! Note that this ultimate is one of the few abilities in the game which can be activated even while under crowd control.
Best Tryndamere Items
Tryndamere is a classic top lane fighter, whose main characteristic is his high damage, and who relies on his ultimate to survive, instead of tankiness.
Best Starter Tryndamere Items
Starting out, Tryndamere's best bet is buying a Doran's Shield, as his base damage is more than enough to force anyone out of lane, or at least put them on the back foot.

Best Mid Game Tryndamere Items
If you've played your lane correctly, and farmed as much as possible, while taking as many tower plates as possible, our core build should be ready.

While some of his Mythic Items options used to contain Galeforce, that was during the Tryndamere mid-lane days. In the top lane, Kraken SLayer is unavoidable, to bring down the tanks found there.

Best Final Late Game Tryndamere Items
Tryndamere, as a top lane fighter, is one of the champions that abuses the Blade of the Ruined King rather well. However, he doesn't build it first, as most of the others do.

On the other hand, Mortal Reminder is a necessity these days, due to all the healing. The last three items can sometimes be exchanged for items such as Guardian Angel, if you need to carry via team fights, or Hullbreaker, for the monstrous split-pushing potential, or, in extreme cases, for Infinity Edge, when you can carry games front to back.
Strongest Champions Against Tryndamere
Tryndamere can't cope all that well against ranged matchups, that can kite him easily or stop his auto attacks outright. Or the overpowered tanks, that Sejuani currently is.

Teemo | 22.2% | ![]() |
Sejuani | 25% | ![]() |

Weakest Champions Against Tryndamere
On the other hand, Tryndamere demolishes the champions that would fight him head on, and those he can bully with his easy engage and disengage.
