How To Change Account Region | LoL

League of Legends is a game that connects the entire world through a singular passion. Everybody enjoys playing on their server, but at one point, you start thinking about how to change account regions LoL in your Riot Games client.

Luckily, Riot Games allows players to freely choose which server they want to play on without making it too complicated for the player to do.

How To Change Account Region - Riot Games Client

Changing servers is very simple because Riot Games has made it accessible. However, it does come with a few restrictions, such as having low ping in regions that are farther away from your access point. Players may want to consider all of the cons before making such a huge decision.

There are multiple ways to change account regions in League of Legends, with some being simple and easy while others may cost more resources. Depending on which route you take, it’s best to be prepared with the costs.

Method 1: Region Change - LoL Shop

The most basic and safest way to change servers is by purchasing the Region Change at the League of Legends shop. All of the options cost 2600RP, which is a relatively expensive option, but at least you retain all of the resources in your current account, including champions, mastery, RP/BE, gemstones, summoner name, Riot ID, and cosmetics. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can go to this shop page:

  1. Go to the Shop Tab
  2. Click on the Account Tab, which can be found on the upper-right side of the shop beside the Purchase RP & Gifting Center button s.
  3. Select which region you want to go to and confirm.

Take note that Riot Games will give you a warning regarding your decision. In addition, some options aren’t available in specific regions, so you might be surprised that you don’t have access to these servers.

Method 2: New Account Registration

If you’re on a budget and don’t want to spend your Riot Points on creating a new account, or if the account you wish to transfer is relatively young and doesn’t have a lot of stuff that’s worth transferring, you might want to create a new account at the Riot Games website.

2

Creating a new account allows the player to choose which region they want to play on. The downside to this method is that it forces the player to start fresh, meaning they’ll lose all of their progress on a previous account. However, it’s safer than choosing third-party methods that might compromise your League of Legends account.

Method 3: Smurf Accounts

A common method that players do to play on other League of Legends servers is purchasing a smurf account from online sites. This method is dangerous because there’s no guarantee that the account you’ll purchase is legitimate or private, but there are some websites with positive reviews, so do a bit of research before spending your money.

The benefit of purchasing a smurf account is that you get to keep your original account on your home server, but you have the chance to play Ranked games in other regions. Unlike creating a fresh account, LoL smurf accounts usually have packages included, such as having a ton of Blue Essence and a sizable champion pool that allows you to at least have a good number of options to choose from when playing.

How To Change Account Region - Garena Client

Users in Southeast Asia have an exclusive client called Garena. This client doesn’t make use of the Riot client, so it’s not connected to the main Riot Games website nor does it support official Riot Games accounts. Both their League of Legends account and Teamfight Tactics account will not be carried over if they try to play on another server.

Riot Games client users also can’t change regions to Southeast Asian servers since they are mutually exclusive. The good news is that Garena client users can still change servers, but only in areas held by Garena. To learn more on how players can transfer regions in this client, here’s a short guide on how they can do so.

  1. Log in to the Garena Client.
  2. Click on the Settings buttonon the upper-right side of the client just beside the minimize button .
  3. Go to General and select the region you want to play on.

4

It’s essential to take note that when you change regions in the Garena client, you’ll have to re-download the game for the server you have chosen. In addition, your original League of Legends account will not be carried over, so you’ll have to start over. It still uses the same Garena account, but the League of Legends account will be different.

Benefits to Changing Account Regions

Players may seem like changing account regions is a waste of time, but players have legitimate reasons to do so when they’re serious about playing the game. League of Legends introduces so many different player communities that there’s simply no single way to play the game. Here are some of the reasons why players have opted to change regions in LoL:

  • Learn about different strategies and tactics.
  • Practice with opponents with different playstyles.
  • Climb the ranked ladder in a different region.
  • Play with their friends from other regions.
  • Understand the gaming culture from other countries.
  • Trying out something different, in general.

It’s always a good thing to try something new, especially if you’ve been playing League of Legends for a long time and feel that it’s getting a bit stale. Don’t worry about changing regions because you can always transfer back if you think you’ve had enough.

Consequences of Changing Account Regions

Needless to say, every decision that you make will always come back to you in one way or another. Rather than give you all of the benefits, it’s also a good idea to introduce some consequences or problems that you may face when you change your account region. Here are some of them:

  • Language barrier in some foreign countries.
  • Losing your progress and starting over.
  • High ping and frequent lag issues.
  • Difficulty in maintaining multiple accounts, especially if near ranked LP decay.
  • It can get boring if you don’t have friends to play with.

These are only some considerations to make when transferring servers in the game. While there are many League of Legends servers, it’s best to be careful about choosing which ones you want.
