How to Surrender in League of Legends

As any LoL player, we like to win, but winning every game we play in League of Legends is impossible, so sometimes it might be best to just give up and surrender. One thing that we recommend exclusively when the game is completely impossible to trace. So let’s talk about how to surrender LoL.

How to surrender in League of Legends

1 /2

Method 1

Surrender is primarily an option that allows League of Legends players to end a game prematurely, before the nexus itself is even destroyed and give the victory to the enemy team.

Here are the steps you have to follow to surrender in League of Legends:

  1. Typing the following command in chat: /surrender

1

  1. You may also press ESC and click the surrender asson.

2

  1. After that, a pop up will appear and you will be able to vote and see your team’s votes.

3

Calling a Surrender will show all players a new pop-up that will be in the bottom right, and for 60 seconds the team will be able to vote for or against the Surrender. The surrender vote is the best option found for Riot Games to know if a team wants to surrender.

Method 2

In addition to the classic "ff" or "surrender 15" there is a way to end the game prematurely, this mode is the remake. Here is how to do it:

  1. Type “/Remake” on the chat box in the game

4

  1. Start the voting and wait for your team’s votes.

5

The remake allows a team to surrender in case any player is absent (AFK Player), this is a unique opportunity that will be available during the first minutes of the game, exactly from minute three, any member of the team will be able to summon the remake by writing the command “/remake” in the chat, and if another player agrees with the idea of ending the game, it will end without any LP penalty or LP mitigation, that is, the game will not count as a defeat.

This is perfect for a SoloQ ranked game which is the match where AFKs are numerous. You can read more about how to remake LoL in our complete guide.

What you have to know about surrendering in LoL

There are a couple of things you should know about surrendering in League of Legends. For example:

  • If the call to surrender occurs before minute 15, all players must agree and accept the early surrender option, otherwise the game will continue.
  • If the call to surrender occurs after minute 15, at least 4 players must agree to the surrender and accept it, otherwise the game will continue. This votation is usually made after a 20 minute game.
  • When calling a surrender our team will have up to 60 seconds maximum time to accept the surrender, if it does not take place, we can call a new surrender 3 minutes after the vote has finished, but we will still have to play the match.

Sometimes it is important to explain what the reasons are for making a surrender vote during a game, as in most cases people will not want to accept the surrender and waste more than 40 minutes of gameplay trying to win an impossible game.

Penalties for surrendering too much in LoL

Surrendering is completely permissible in League of Legends, however instigating your team to use the surrender option during the game or purposefully misplaying them into doing so is something that Riot Games penalizes very severely.

Penalties can range from chat bans, to 14-day temporary bans, to a permanent ban, if you've been recently banned.

7

So, be careful not to overuse the surrender vote option in your League of Legends match made games. Some games can be traced back, and it's up to the rest of your team to decide if a surrender is necessary.

Always try to give your best in all your games, in this way you can ensure the highest victory rate and that the call to surrender is your "last option" in case you find yourself with a game that is very difficult to win, an AFK, or a troll person in your team.
